Just a quick question that came into play during tonights game. If you fail to cast a spell that becomes exhausted when used is it still exhausted for that turn? Or can you keep attempting to cast until you are successful?

It's exhausted regardless of whether you succeed or fail the spell check.

Otherwise, spells with a sanity cost of 0 could be recast multiple times without penalty until a success was rolled.
