A whole Forge World sourcebook devoted to the largest (known) Marine civil war since the Horus Heresy. Groovy! I love the Forge world books, and it's heartening to see that it appears to have been written by Alan Bligh, who wrote to much of the original Dark Heresy background, and who continues to play such a large part in the 40k RPG scene.

My only worry is the fact that I've already bought 2x Into the Storm, 1x Deathwatch, and 1 x DW CE in the past month, (1 each for me, 1 each as presents for my brother) PLUS I want the DW GM screen...so I might have to put this off for a month as I've spent circa £300 on this stuff!

The Badab War would make a nice campaign setting for a Deathwatch kill team, actually, especially the intrigue surrounding its early period. Many of the Chapters involved thought they were standing up for Astartes independence against Administratum interference, so not all of those on the "traitor" side were actually renegades in the same way as in the Horus Heresy. It would be interesting to see a campaign involving a DW kill-team with members from both sides of the war attempt to get a grip on what's really happening behind the scenes.

An interesting point worth noting is that the Badab War doesn't take place until 85 years after 'present day' for Deathwatch (assuming the same 816.M41 date as Rogue Trader), which means that it could be used as a possible future for characters from a Kill-Team, and even that Chapters that rebelled during the war (including the Astral Claws themselves) could well be sending marines into the Deathwatch during the 'present day'.

You could easily do a two-part campaign that way - the first half deals with their past as a kill-team together, while the latter half picks up around 85 years later, as each of them has returned to their Chapters and prospered, holding important ranks and titles and becoming paragons of Marinedom by the time the Badab War begins (consider that Forgeworld's 'poster boy' Marine character, Carab Culln of the Red Scorpions, appears as a Veteran Sergeant in the Siege of Vraks, c815-825.M41, and will apparently appear as Chapter Master in the forthcoming Badab War book)

I watch FW in the Emperor's name, mostly because when I asked two years ago if they would ever make fem marine bits, I was told by one of the artists that they would come out at the same time as Duke Nukem Forever.

Given the current status of Duke Nukem Forever, I hope to see fem marines in Quarter 2 of next year.

And I guess they're rehasing the old ship boarding rules.

And it will be in two parts they will be.

Duke Nukem Forever Won't be out until it is on store shelves. They have shown playable demos before, at least twice, I think.

I just wouldn't get too excited.

Back to the topic.

"By the Emperor, the xenos scum will pay for shooting up my ride!"

"Bolters don't kill mutants. I kill mutants."

"Crouching Mutant, Hidden Meltabomb!"

Always bet on Brother Sargent Nukem.

Aye! For he kicks ass and chews promethium! And he's all out of promethium...

I'm definitely picking this up. The Badab War has been of interest to me since the original White Dwarf article, and for a schism of its magnitude it has received woefully little attention in the normal course of 40K lore and fiction. I still have a veritable army of Lamenters terminators that I painted after the article came out... I probably have more Lamenters than there are actual Lamenters remaining in the Imperium. :/

Have been giving some serious thought to running a deathwatch variant with the players as Astral Claws / Mantis Warriors / Lamenters / Executioners. Of course maybe I should wait till I get my hands on death watch first...

I just ordered my copy of the Badab war yesterday. mainly for FW's stunning artwork and the background info. ^^

I think it should be reasonably easy to integrate other chapters into Deathwatch. I already have a player who will insist on playing a Salamander so I'll have to concoct a Chapter demeaenour up, as well as some other chapter-specific stuff. But I'm reasonably confident that it won't cause any mayor headaches once I actually have the Deathwatch book (which is in the post as we speak, yay!)

Oh and while I remember, for those interested in The Badab War the guys over at Bell of lost souls put together source material for a 40k wargame campaign which is quite an interesting read...
