Minions

By jak102789, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hey all. I'm new to GMing dark heresy and one of my players had a question about how minions work. I looked around online and throughout the book and I can't find anything. He is looking into getting talents like Iron Discipline and the like. I just can't find any reference into what a minion actually is or how to obtain them. My assumption is they are just NPCs that are just like guards or something that they might convince to accompany them on a shared goal. But I guess I'd really like to know exactly how the Captain and Commander classes work then.

Thanks!

Normally a character would not have minions all the time in a DH game. That being said acolytes could recruit PDF troops, Arbites and a variety of others to help them crack down on "the bad guys." That is normally where those skills come in, at least in my games. As to recruiting this sort of back up, There are social interaction rules in the GM's section of the book that can be used, but personally I prefer to have my players roleplay it out, explaining why they need the backup to the folks in charge.

What's that?!?

It looks like...

The Acolytes, being minions themselves, will not generally have any group of permanent followers unless their Inquisitor gives them such.

On certain missions they may be put in charge of "minions" working for the Inquisition or even normal PDF/IG/Police for some purpose, but the loyalty and obedience of these will be depending on the mission and what authority the Acolytes claim.

Trusted Acolytes might actually aquire their own minions, either by wealth or by rank, and Ascended characters will probably have minions if they want. Use appropriate social skills if needed, but otherwise there is no need for a complex "leadership score" system.
