In our second attempt at victory me and my g/f had our first victory this time facing off against Yig. It wasn't a pretty game and had its share of luck and unlucky moments. The luck was that we never had any abundance of monsters at one time thanks to some clearing Headlines and many gates sharing the same symbol as those remaining (in fact we never hit the outskirts limit and finished with the terror track at 0). The unlucky was that we didn't get any monster surges due to gates actually appearing at different locations nearly every time hence leading to a large amount of gates. With so many gates and our inability to actually seal them Yigs doom track kept rising. Along with some delaying otherworldly cards we were unable to move quick enough to prevent his awakening. With only one sanity going into the final battle and the curses Yig bestows we assumed we had little chance but with a shotgun and only the 2 of us 6's were automatic hits against him. We both survived his first 3 attacks and on our fourth attack with my g/f having gone he had 3 doom counters left and i had 6 dice to roll 5 of which turned up 6's. This last little bit of luck ended the game and left us satisfied with the game once again.

For score following the book we recieved 0 negatives (no terror track advancement and no elder signs used) Yig + 10, the both of us survived + 2, + 2 for unspent gate trophies (yeah we only closed 2 gates) and 3 were closed by an encounter at the science building.

So 14 final game score.

For reference we did a random AO and random characters I was the Photographer and my g/f was the Magician.

Now onto a few small questions we had during the game:

1) Do you get to roll during the upkeep phase in the final battle to remove Yig's Curse? (we did but never succeeded so it didn't effect us this game)

2) In an encounter in another world it told me to move to the Black Cave... there was another gate on the Black Cave would I be automatically thrown through that gate and be delayed? or given the option to pass through or stay at the black cave?

#1: Yes, after the first round, you never roll for Blessing/Curse/Retainer on the turn immediately after getting one.

#2: You take an OW encounter in Phase 4, gate interaction, if, like in this case there was an open gate at the Black Cave happens in Phase 3. You don't go back Phases, thus you sit at Black Cave for the Mythos Phase, then can either move off or enter the gate during your next turn.

Shouldn't this depend on what the OW Encounter specifically said? I mean, if it's just "go to the Black Cave", I'm with Dam. If the card instructs you to go to the Black Cave and have an encounter there, since the gate substitutes the location, you should have to enter the new gate (I think)

Are there OW encounters that tell you to go to a non-OW location and have an encounter? I recall a few that move you to another OW and you have an encounter there or that dump you back to Arkham, but can't recall any that tell you to have an encounter. And I'm SO not going to be checking all the OW encounters !

I remember an old thread regarding an issue like this: "an OW area instructed me to go the Black Cave, have an encounter there and then return to the OW - Dreamlands, if I remember correctly - but the Black Cave encounter drove me insane. Where should I go? Asylum? LiTaS?". This is why I was asking some extra details!

My recollection seems to suggest you'd follow the result of the new encounter (in this case Asylum), which negates the leftover bit from the original encounter.

heh thanks to all for the clarification...yeah now that I see it explained it makes sense that i would sit in arkham because its already in phase 4 when i move to Black Cave...so entering the gate would have to wait until next turn
