Responses/Triggered affects

By dolphinsboy, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

So I have been playing AGoT with my fellow card shop goers for about 2 1/2 months. we have run into a few questions recently.

1)To be a kraken. stand a greyjoy character to negate a triggered affect. Now what is considered a triggered affect? I have played many games and in all of them if you need to pay a cost its considered a triggered affect. so that would mean events that require you to pay influence or gold etc would be a triggered affect corect?

2) Deadly. Does deadly go before claim or after? if after i could kill the person that defended to satisfy the claim??

Now the thing to be careful of here is that when you talk about a triggered effect initiating because a player chooses for it to, we're talking about a direct choice for initiation. Passive effects are not triggered by choice, although they sometimes look that way. They happen whether the player wants them to or not, even if the player chooses to initiate whatever activates them (for example, I choose which plot to reveal, but the "when revealed" text of that plot happens whether I want it to or not, so plot text is not a triggered effect).
