Any official reference for this one? Can an initiate both acquire and train an advanced skill at creation (E.g. piety and invocation)?
Thanks,

To clarify: can you use specializations or your other skill points to go from acquired to "trained?"
I don't see how you could use specialisations, they are different and listed differently.
Similarly page 16 and page 30 reflect a view that "acquiring" and "training" are not the same thing so though it's not explicit I would say it doesn't prevent using skill points to "acquire" and "train" (once) a skill during creation. An initiate wanting to that with two skills would need to spend 3 creation points (for 4 + 2 specialisations).
So, he's got to wait until Rank 2 to go beyond "acquired" for Invocation and Piety? (since he doesnt' start with those acquired per the FAQ)
No my reading is the character creation rules say you can't train more than once, acquiring isn't training, so you can acquire and then train in character creation.
I agree with Val. You can acquire a skill and also train it.
To answer your question check official FAQ, page 6, right column, 3 paragraph from the top.
In short - yes Initiates can acquire and train invocation and piety at rank 1.
