Ma' Blight Card...too strong?

By Stalker0, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Generally I'm a big fan of the blight cards, but the Ma's blight card I'm worried may be too strong.

Not strong in that it makes the game too challenging or anything, but it simply makes going for an ally not worth it.

Allies are very expensive to purchase, and the Ma card rips that from your hand, along with the rest of your team.

What are your thoughts?

Actually, I agree. The Ma blight card makes it bad strategy to use Ma's boarding house. We nerfed it so it still closes Ma's, but it doesn't force you to discard allies. It encourages people to get to Ma's while they still can. We use the same approach with Sheriff Engle.

Personally, I dread The Dean a lot more. But I think both cards are perfect the way they are.

Don't want Ma to be blighted? Then add a doom token instead, or keep the terror level down.

If anything, the Mintz and Sharon cards should have been made stronger. But I guess these two cards can be the "gambled and won" cards from the Blight deck.

I agree with you on this one....I definately feel some blight cards are very strong and others just so so.

Since I'm all about sealing gates, The Dean is the one I worry about, with Oliver Thomas being the runner-up. Rest are meh, Ma is probably one of the best of them, since I don't care about Allies, very, very rarely bother to buy them (read almost never). Thus, Ma is a free Blight with minimal/zero game impact.

Unless you play against Glaaki. Then Ma losing it is worse than death.

I believe this has come up in the past. Ma only discards Allies in play, doesn't return them to the box, thus they are still available, you just can't buy them, can still meet them via encounters. Hence, Ma + Glaaki doesn't have any effect (other than +1 Terror for the initial Blight draw), unless you had Allies in play.

Phew, that seems more reasonable, thanks for the update! (but I may just carry on playing the sick way demonio.gif)

Doesn't matter: a Servant of Glaaki enters play whenever an ally is returned to the box OR discarded.

That said, the ally deck itself isn't returned to the box: only the allies in possession of investigators.

I think what dj2.0 was referring was the old interpretation, whereby Ma Blight removed all the Allies from play, thus waking Glaaki immediately.

yup, thats what i meant - the Glaaki instagib

Oh jeez, when we all thought the entire DECK was returned to the box? Yeah, I remember trembling at that thought...

Ive been playing that way all along! sorpresa.gif
