I've been poking around a bit and wasn't able to find anything specific, but what do you guys think of the possibility of using an iPad (or any similar product) as a stand in dataslate? Though I am far from a tech expert on such things would it really be terribly hard to get some art for icons/background that was 40k ish and turn it into something you could give your pcs to play around with and try to access info off? Presumably you could even add password protected files on it that were relevant to the game and let them either roll skills to hack them, guess or find out during roleplay in the game itself?

Just strikes me as something that could be extraordinarily fun and immersive for the players, especially the techie types who may often get somewhat overlooked in games with a decent amount of combat?

sounds very cool. i think a dataslate is very backwards in comparison, judging by the background in the DH book.

Its always been my belief that a dataslate looks like what the iPad turned out looking like. Except the iPad was the starting point, and a few tens of millenia of forgetting how things work down the line, ta da! dataslate!

It can be done with PC tablets, so I would imagine that it would be possible in the glitch that is Mac.

If nothing else, Opera and kiosk mode.

I am attempting this very thing with an old tablet... Converting the outside as well to look like a dataslate. I'll let you know how it goes (if it goes).

During games I use a notebook. When we need to speak to our Inquisitor, our GM exits the room we play in, and then we communicate via our cell phones. That works pretty good

If I do get an IPad (once they get to Sweden... stupid Apple) I will probably find or make an app for this. A modified pdf/document reader with some extra controles and 40k styling. Showing maps and similar info on an actual datapad would be cool and very useful (easier for everyone to see than on a laptop).

Data slate is exactly what I thought about when I first learned what the IPad was.
