Card questions (core set)

By Kopos, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

hi

i would like to clarify the meaning of the following cards (core set):

- Greatjon Umber: the card states that if you kneel him, you can participate in a "crown" or "axe" challenge as a defender or an attacker. i see this ability as benefit only when you play against 2 or more players, because you could help one side against the other to your benefit. is this correct?

- Viserys Targaryen: it says that, as a response, you can save him from being killed or discarded from play, then return him to his owner hand. Does this mean that if he dies or his discarded from play, he returns to his owner hand just like that?

thanks

He is very useful in joust too. Greatjon Umber

Yep, just like that. Note that he doesn't die nor he's discarded - it's save by returning to hand.

A little extra here:

1. Greatjon's usefulness is Joust is fairly straightforward. If I am attacking, I can essentially wait until after I see who my defender declares to defend before deciding if I want him to attack or not. If I am attacking, I can use him to get around "Stealth," as Rogue30 describes. I can also wait to see if my opponent decides to play effects that increase the STR of his attackers after I declare defenders before deciding to defend with him. Think of him as "3STR in reserve" for your own challenges.

2. Keep in mind that if Viserys is killed or discarded in a situation where he can't be saved (like, say, the plot Wildfire Assault), he will not "automatically" bounce to your hand. You have to be able to save him from the kill or discard.

wow!!! Greatjon is very nice!!!! Gotta try it again!!!!

But yes, i gotta read the errata. There's a lot of stuff about timing that i have to master

thanks
