re/actions in story phase newbie confirmation?

By JayDe, in CoC Rules Discussion

New to CoC.

It states that actions/reactions etc cannot interrupt the resolution of a story (green section in timing structure containing all 4 struggles).

Does that mean reactions to units leaving play or other such thing ALL OCCUR AT SAME 'Response to struggle and success results may be played' section without interrupting the resolutions? with the active player's reactions occuring first.

I have not bought the game, but say one card says 'when another units goes insane this one gains a skull/combat power' - that would have no effect this turn as it is not resolved until after this story block?

Which card are you referring to as I am having trouble locating the exact wording of such a card. Thanks.

Maybe you are thinking of things like Julia Brown, who gains +1 skill for every insane character. In her case, when it is time to check skill you would count the number of insane characters. There is no action involved, just timing.

We had a very similar discussion to the one we are about to have in another thread. In that thread, I asked about a card called "Dark Contagion".

This is a card that wounds the card it is attached to whenever one of the creatures in play with Shub-Niggurath's symbol is wounded. The ruling from The Professor (and the rulebook, I just forgot how to read, or something) is that Dark Contagion could not wound during story resolution.

My interpretation was that, then, once the story is resolved, then the actions that were triggered during the story phase resolve. So, the creature with Dark Contagion on it is wounded after the story phase, which is when everything triggered in the story phase resolves (as far as I know.)

If I understand correctly, you are asking "Say there were multiple things all triggered during the story resolution, in what order are they resolved outside of the story?" This is a tough one. I can see it happening that Dark Contagion is attached to a character that does something else after a story is resolved. So what resolves first when the triggers are "technically" simultaneous (they all happen at some point during resolution).

That, my friend, is a tough question.

::Edit::

Stupidly, I didn't read your post closely. I think that you are right in the active player resolves first, but do they resolve all of theirs before the other player? I would guess that the person "in charge" (active player or opponent) decides the order of their resolutions.

Thanks HappyDD - That is what I was getting at, whether certain cards (i apologise to others because i was making up some card text as an example - didn't make that clear) effects or boons or reactions could affect other struggles in thes same story-phase. But the answer is no. Similar to not being able to play actions in between struggles, so each character's benefits / icons stay the same from the start - end of resloution of a story in that phase
