Chapter specific demeanors

By ejacobs, in Deathwatch

Howdy all,

Writing you from Afghanistan; no chance of getting the rulebook until well after it gets released, but I was wondering...

I'm a big fan of the Scythes of the Emperor, and since according to the "Legends of the Space Marines" book just gave *spoiler below* battle brothers to Deathwatch, I was thinking that they warrant their own demeanor.

Any ideas? Perhaps something regarding tyranids?

Am looking for help from you guys that have the book already and are willing to step up. Don't limit ideas to just the Scythes though. I'd like to hear about other "future" chapters as well.

Sure thing mate. I'd me more than happy to come up with something. Right now I'm still locked into a staredown with amazon.co.uk to try and change the 'Not yet Dispatched' into a 'Dispatched'. Once i've had a read-through I think i should be able to concoct some other demeanours.

Btw, just wondering; with you being deployed abroad, can't you have someone send out the book to you?

I think Demeanours is more a general psychological thing, rather than focussed on a specific enemy.

How about... 'Avengers'?

'Members of Sycthes are spurred on to greater deeds by casualties (critical wounded and dead), etc. '

How about this:

'Crimson Fists'

'Duty-Bound - Crimson Fists have been drilled to do what they are expected to do... even beyond what is the high expectations of other Space Marine chapters. When they are ordered to defend, their defending is exemplary. When ordered to exterminate xenos, their sense of duty will eventually turn them into great xeno-hunters. The grim task of having to rebuild their chapter only heightens the sense of responsibility that every individual brother has. Crimson Fists pursue a given assignment with conviction up and above the normal call of duty.'

I've got it ordered from Amazon, also in a stare-down with them.

I like that demeanor for the CF's. Lots of role-play possibilities there.

Once my book arrives I plan on reading the character creation section till the ink is absorbed into my eyes; I can hardly wait!

just wanted to wish you luck out there mate and hope you all come home good, partly out due to fact i am gonna be joinning ya soon.

Safe journey to both of you, Drake 56 and ejacobs, and much thanks for your dedication and bravery.

For Scythes of the Emperor, how about some sort of a heroic stance in the face of impossible odds, even for the Deathwatch. Something similar to the Dark Angels maybe. Against a certain number of enemies or type of enemy the marine could enter a deeply focused state of mind, granting him WS and/or BS bonusesd but reduce his defense bonuses or restrict him from being in squad mode or something similar. I'm just throwing out ideas here, maybe some rereading of any source material available could help, I seem to recall an old short story about Ultramarines Chaplain Cassius talking to a Scythes of the Emperor sergeant about his experiences against the Tyranids.

Hatred (Tyranids) is an obvious talent, and perhaps they could be restricted in the specialties, due to their greatly diminished numbers. Not to be a downer on the whole idea, but it might make sense that their techmarines are more desperately needed by the remainder of the chapter to restore their arms and armour, rather than have their specialized knowledge be exposed to the increased risk Deathwatch missions.
