Just got Into the Storm: Well Done FFG a superb product.

By Captain Harlock, in Rogue Trader

Im really impressed with into the Storm. So much effort has gone into it and it is a lovely supplement and will add so much to RT

There is so much extra material I doubt that our Dynastys profit factor will ever stretch that far. Ive just spent the last 2 Hours reconciling the warrant path with the dynasty current profit factor and ship points total. It has already suggested some more murky buisness in the Tenax Dynastys history.

It is well laid out and offers so many more options. The wait was well worth it . As a handbook is definetly better than the version for Dark Heresy (although some of the equipment from the void and frontier enviroments would have been welcome...but thats a small quibble)

Whats really impressed me is that whoever as written it REALLY know their fluff and has been around for a long time, and has a love for the more obscure lore in 40K. This is truly a book for those that literally 'grew up' with the 40k setting. In a way FFG has single handedly managed to satisfy the nostalgia of some of the older 40k gamers:

Phaeton pattern collapsable hab units! - Some one out there like Forge World!

Castellan Shielding! That is an older class of ship from space fleet!

Power Boards! Superb... a rare piece of equiopment from the days when in 40K you could put a spacemarine on what amounted to aN anti-grav Surfboard.

Theres no point in harping about nostalgia for the good old days of the early late 80's in 40k...Its all in Rogue trader anyway!

Now...if only FFG could bring the squats back

No...No...who are you?! ....I' ve done nothing wrong!...I only want the sq...

I love any mention of that Abhuman race that we don't talk about and am really looking forward to this book hopefully i can pick up a copy tonight from orcs nest here in london and read it on the way home.

Agreed! A big congrats goes out to the entire Rogue Trader team (in-house and freelance) for creating such a fantastic resource.

nice 'Back to the Future' homage with the hoverboard.

Cheers! I'm glad to have even been a small part in helping make ItS good for you guys. It really is the Inquisitor's Handbook "Plus" for Rogue Trader gran_risa.gif

Thank you to everyone who's responded favorably to Into The Storm. It was a joy to work on and a joy to see in print.

Seconded; as my first professional project, it was somewhat daunting in size and content, but a great experience to work on and great to finally see published.

Still, there's plenty more to come, and while I might be biased in my opinion, I think it's all just as good as Into the Storm.

I havnt had time to really read everything but so far I am really liking it.

My only concern really is that it may cover too many different areas meaning that when the rules are further expanded on, that people will need to look up the core book, Into the Storm and whatever new book expands on it during play which may slow the game down. That said its a small concern that may not turn out to actually be a problem. I really wish that it had addressed the shuttle question although I expect that will be in a future release.

All and all great work. I like the way the xenos are handled, making it possible to easily customise them by adding in new careers or new starting options. Something that would be fun to see from the community would be a gretchin/squig advance scheme, not a very long one but just enough that it allows you to customise them a bit. Maybe even keep it as simple as a list of skills/talents that they can pick one from after a completed endevour.

There is now a good amount of Eldar and Dark Eldar items to let you use a good cross section of Eldar foes. Pulse weapons match quite closely to what I had pegged them at a while ago so I am happy with those.

Actually the power board was a shout-out to the original Rogue Trader book, but thanks. It was a fun book to work on and a blast bringing in so many classic items for this game, plus some new ones too. I think we all had great fun working on it.

SQUATS. There, I said it. I think they are pretty ridiculous, but if you want them, just take a human and shift numbers around. Higher Strength and BS, lower Agility and Fellowship. I think the rest would be the same.

I really think that when they put the Squats on tricycles, that killed them. Having them gobbled up by the Tyranids did not help. Where are the Zoats at?

Well i got my copy and i LOVE it such a good combination of information and ideas i loved the orcs info especially the small samples of orcs talking to normal humans " Now after me WAAAAGHHH " if conjures images of humans screaming as they charge onto a ship following a very large Ork freebooter gran_risa.gif.

The new origins warrent ideas etc are cool as well as the new gear etc. Still have to read the vechile rules but so far it all seems to be brilliant.

My hat off to all those involved.

I've no particular burning desire to see to see them return. After 40k changed from a tongue in cheek experimental setting to something more conrete GW didnt know what to to do with them as the background was a bit uncertain and divulged between the slighly comical tuff biker imagery that came with the game and the hyper technological mining clans in epic. In the end Jervis Johnson was probably justified that the whole biker dwarves in space did not do the race any justice, my only gripe was the slighty cack handed way they were got rid of. Tyranid munch up? Up to that point the squats were quite common in imperial guard armys in the same way that dwarves and halflings and ogres were in warhammer empire armies. If they could not be seen as a major race anymore they could have been still kept along in the background as slightly embittered abhumans who occupied the same kind of function as ogryns and ratlings.

Of course the Demi Urg is a return to the squat concept without the tricybles, but I think that it has little legd on it.

Zoats? Werent they the four legged centuroid psychic race used by the tyranids as slaves and diplomats when they first probed the galaxy. Somewhere buried in the lore its claimed that they rebelled against their masters and were...eaten by the tyranids.

Actually Tyranids seem like a convenient Deux Ex Machina device for GW...

Well done congrats all around keep up the good work

So when do we get Kroot Hounds and Kroot Hawks for the Kroot?

I would hope deathwatch

Thanks to all involved:) Loved the orks section, really well thought out. Will probably never play one but my favourite race and certainly shows them in a way that the eldar phylosopher pointed them out as(take a pat on the back:) ).I can certainly see a lot of thought went into this entire project. Was disappionted that the Starships oddities and past histories but i can cross my fingers that will be in the Starships book.Keep up the good work guys,Urra!

Really liked the book as well, especially the new Profit Factor and Ship Point system (my players will be happy to have more control over their starting PF and SP rather than relying on a single d10 roll), the new Ship and Vehicle rules, and the new Xenos Careers and all their extra bits such as weapons and alternate Career Ranks.

In fact, I loved all the Ork stuff so much ('Loudeners' and 'Red Laser' Kustom Bitz, and the Mekboyz's habit of 'fixing' things that aren't even broken, only to make them broken after use are my favourites), that my friend and I have no doubt now that Orkz (and their Fantasy equivalents) were the best thing GW has ever invented. Who needs Space Marines? lol

I am very impressed with this book. So much great stuff in there. Haven't read it all the way through yet, but I think it's great. I love the new weapons, especially the Power Sword that sets you on fire and the Assault Stubber.

BYE

It is a good supplement. I like the fact that many of the alternate career ranks are available at lower ranks, never liked the ones that became available so late in DH (ranks 5 or 6 and what not). I think most of these should be from 1, 2 and 3.

However, I do find it problematic in both the DH and RT lines as they keep adding more various ways to create characters. I do hope in the future we get the ultimate character creation compendium. Til then I will have to pring out from the PDFs and bind all that stuff in one folder.

Got my copy yesterday. Lots of shiny new toys to play with here, including sanctioned Kroot and Orks to play as! Too bad everyone in my area is more interested in Deathwatch than either DH or RT, which is a shame because, while I still like DW, these two series have so much going for them...

new shiny!

Got my copy yesterday. Quite a bit earlier then I had imagined. So far it looks quite good and pretty useful to. To bad that we can't use so many of the grand new stuff inside unless we start a new campaign. But even omitting those parts, I expect to have good mileage for my money.

from france

got mine yesterday. i am impress by the origines section and equipement. didn't have time to read more.

I got mine at Gencon- and while I love it, I just noticed its bound incorrectly. I have whole sections repeated somehow. I'm thinking the issue isnt a common one.

A year on from RT and still only Kroot and Ork?
