Where does it say Wizards get all petty spells?

By Emirikol, in WFRP Rules Questions

Quick question: I need a reference and a page for where it says Wizards get all basic spell cards and petty spells..or does this reference not exist? The only references I can find are: Channel power and the Cantrip

One other question: I recall reading wizard start with channeling and spellcraft acquired. Where is that reference again?

Thanks,

Jay H

petty magic: second paragraph of the acquire action cards section on page 31 of rule book

wizards starting skills: page 42 of ToM skills section, first sentence

Thanks P!

I needed it for a reference on a Strange Eon's WFRP character I'm doing up.

Thanks,

I'm trying to figure this out too. It says they "start the game with a number of petty magic spells", but it doesn't say what that "number" is. How many petty magic spells do they start out with? Is it really all of them?

I think it is.

I think FFG have used the phrase "a number" so that should they ever add more additional petty magic spell cards, they can just be picked up for free too.

I think the general idea is that you can start the game with ALL basic actions (which includes petty magic and minor blessings, I believe) provided you meet the criteria. So for petty magic, you have to be able to cast spells.

It also follows that if at a later stage you meet the criteria for a basic action that you did not met during character creation, then you have to buy that action, you do not get it for free. I think this is clarified in the FAQ and there is an example somewhere about this referring to the block action (I believe). Same rule applies to petty magic post character creation, although, this does make going into the wizard/priest career after character creation an expensive proposition due to having to buy the majority of your basic actions with advances, so i think we might houserule that bit slightly if it ever coems up, so that the wizard gets some stuff for "free"
