40K conversion system

By ThulmannFan87, in Dark Heresy House Rules

I've had an idea for a system for converting 40K stats into Dark Heresy, but am not sure how it might work. Has anyone had a similar idea, and if so, how does yours work?

Cheers

I doubt a straight conversion will ever work since the TT works with a span of 2-6 possible values most of the time, while DH has many more. For example, loads of models have WS 4, but I can't imagine that all of them have them same WS in DH. You also have the fact that there is no real equivalent to talents in TT. An Orc and an Eldar may have the same WS in the TT, but in DH the Eldar will probably be higher while the Orc will have brute-force talents instead of pure WS (that's a made up example, I don't remember the eldar/orc stats in DH).

I would try to form a baseline by looking at a few of the races in the different books and compare them to the TT. Once you have a baseline, try and put stat-costs on various skills and talents. When converting something you then take the baseline for that model, add any talents and skills you think would be appropriate and modify the stats based on those. So if you decide that WS 4 equals WS 50 and that Orcs should have Two Weapon Wielder, Frenzy and Furious Assault, each costing 5 WS, then the Orc ends up with those talents and WS 35.

It would take some work, and considering that most races are already found in various books I don't know if it would be of much use. Might be easier to just make up rules separately for the few things not included, like Necrons.

Also the stats in TT do not directly correspond to what they actually mean. For example, the actual Strength of a model in TT can be seen as a compilation of WS, S, T and A. As we know in DH SB+TB calculate how much you can lift/push/pull. In the old Imperial Guard Codex, Catachan Jungle Fighters were bigger, larger and stronger then there Cadian counterparts, but in the doctrines this was through Hardened Fighters which gave a +1WS.

As the previous poster stated, just because a Ork is WS 4 in TT does not mean he is as good a fighter as a WS 4 Space Marine in raw WS%. Frenzy, berzerk charge, and so forth need to be calculated.

Also look at a TT entries special rules, such as Stealth, Rending, Hit and Run and so forth and use those as guidelines as to what basic skills, talents, traits and characteristics to give a critter.

I still believe that there may be a methodical way between 40K and DH, as I've always believed there may be a way through most situations. Suspend disbelief for a mo and add whatever traits/'talents/etc. and it might just work. Add to which my saying: don't let the !£%&(!£! game, get in the way of the fun!
