Encounters on locations with gates

By slavakion, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

In my last game, we had a situation where a character decided to not close a gate after returning from an OW (I think we were trying to prevent another doom token). However, he didn't want to leave the location due to a stack of monsters in the streets that he had no way of fighting/evading.

In this scenario, what happens on that character's Arkham Encounter phase? Is he forced into closing the gate?

He just sits there, doing nothing. If you are at a location with an open gate and you have an Explored Marker, your Arkham Encounters are really quick if you don't want to close gran_risa.gif .

Though his movement phase might be more action packed if there's a monster surge.

Heh, the hapless doctor just had to last one turn for Ashcan Pete to come clear the way with his sword of glory. Somehow, the game actually didn't decide to monster surge us and we eventually got off the final seal.

Hello.

After the investigator has left the Other World, he has received the explored-marker. This allows him to stay at the same location with the same gate for as long as he likes; he won't be swallowed by the gate again.

As soon as he leaves the location for whatever reason without having closed the gate, he looses the Explored-marker; and if he returns to the place with the gate still open, then he is dragged into the Other World again.

See also: AH Core Rules pg. 8, middle column, paragraph 4.

A monster surge would only add a combat situation on the next movement phase; this has no influence, though, on the gate, the explored-marker and being drawn into the Other World.

Ia! Ia!
