I have a question about a a card in the Blade Dancer character deck. The card is Mortal Strike. The card says :Play before a hero makes a melee combat roll.If your hero's combat roll is 10 or lower than this challenge's melee combat value, you are automatically knocked out. Can please anyone give me an example of how it works?

Thank you very much!

I have the Character Decks but I haven't used them for a long time.

Are you sure you wrote down the text right? In the text you wrote it seems clear WHEN to play this character card and that is '...before a hero makes a melee combat roll.'
But then it starts talking about YOUR combat roll and the fact that YOU'LL get knocked out. What happens to the Hero you're playing this card on? Why would you ever play this card if it only negatively affects you and doesn't seem to do anything to another Hero?

I think there is information missing. When I can I'll dig out my cards and see if I can find this one.

When you play a card on an opponent the card text is read by your opponent so there it goes the you. The card ''speaks''to him directly.I can't understand the effect of the card.

I get the timing of the card and who gets the negative effect. You play it on an opponent who then reads the card to themself. My interpretation of the cards effect (on your opponent) is:

Ignore all bonuses through stats and gear and look solely at the dice roll itself. Is that dice roll 10 or less than the challenges Melee Combat Value? If so the opponent is knocked out.

Example: You are facing a challenge that has a melee combat value of 19 and you roll an 8 on the dice. Your combat roll is 11 less than the challenge's melee combat value. Since its 10 or lower than the challenge's melee combat value, you are knocked out.

The reason I think you have to ignore all stat bonuses and gear bonuses is that it would be virtually impossible to miss melee combat rolls by 10 or more at any point in the game if you start adding in stat and gear to the roll unless a player with little to no gear and little to no experience tokens starts taking on blue or red challenges.

Thank you very much both of you!

I agree. MoonShadow and Miles601 seem to be right.

I pulled out my cards and the text is like you described it. I just couldn't remember the rules for these cards; it's been so long.
