My First Campaign: Baptism of Fire

By Targetlock, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

I have recntly started my own dark heresy campaign (self written) and thought i might write up about the adventures i will be using.

Mutation Without, Corruption Within

For thier first test, they were sent to a backwood industrial world; they were sent to hunt down and kill a heretic who had escaped imperial justice. this heretic was a rogue doctor who had become mutated and began experimenting on other mutants, believing mutation to be the next step in human evolution. they succesfully killed him and destroyed his lab.

Reaper in the Corn

Thre party is sent to Stormholm a feudal agri-worldto investigate a series of killings, supposedly by a monster. they were able to track and kill the monster, that was a Xenos beast who had accidentily been released from hibernation. the group also encountered the Cult of the Saviour; a blasphemous cult who worshipped the creature and believed the killings were 'chosen' to be gifted with ascension from their bleak lives.

Only in Death does Duty End (Current Adventure)

The Party is sento to Redemption, a shrine world, covered in shrines and miles of graves; they have been tasked with investigating the brutal murder of an inqusition agent. this agent had been discovered to have recently come into possession of a deadly book. this agent was a secret archivist who; storing dangerous items for inquisition 'proccessing'. this book had been stolen by a mysterious cult; the party was able to find their base but too late. The party must now rush to the Cathedral of the Emperor Ascendant to stop a dark ritual.

GM Notes: the book is the Book of Rot, a horrible tome filled with information every disease ever created, and contains information on creating new ones. the Cult of Flies wishes to use the book to Summon The Lord of Flies, a daemon wh oonce risen can sumon the dead in the miles of graves as plague zombies and transform the planet into wasteland.

And next up:

Exitus Acta Probat

The characters are interrupted during leave to head for a hotel. there they are met by a seniot acolyte and are told they must aid him in protecting a recent prisoner. they must protect him for 48 hours until pick up comes from off-world. multiple assassins and other parties loom. inspired partially by Smokin' Aces.

City of the Dead

The city of erebus is a giant floating city above the clouds of Port Hope, this city is a pleasure city built for the nobility. this city has been struck by a horific plague that transforms the citiznes into raging zombiues. the city has been quarantined and is now tasked to be destroyed. but the city has an Inquisitorial holding site, a valuable and powerful archive of information. a group must enter the city and recover the valuable Data-Core before the city has been destroyed. the characters will be given a temporary immunisation against the disease this will only last 24 hours.

Inspired by two many zombie movies and shades of twilight adventure.

Deus Ex Machina

The Acolytes have been sent to investigate a signal deep from the city of Ironkeep. The signal is from an Inquisitor long fought dead, lost in the depths. What is lurking in the sprawling catacombs below Ironkeep? The party is about to realise that they have more problems than an old signal!

Other adventure ideas:

> a vampire adventure: thinking of some kind of Xeno-race; hidden away inside a noble house. thinking of an investigation into a rise of killings in the town leading to a deadly outbreak. any siggestions or ideas about this?

> the psyker wishes to become a templar calix and i'm thinking of doing a mini-adventure as a trial with him earning his force weapon rather than giving it to them?

> have you ever done any mini-adventures based on the characters background (settling old debts, old foes etc)?

Thanks for any help, advice, suggestions or comments :)

P,S FFG rules, bring on Deathwatch!!

No advice, comments or suggestions?

A couple of things I'll mention. One thing is in regards to the vampirism, is make it possible that all this is being done by a group of nobles who're either sorcerors/un-sainctioned psykers, I'd also recommend if you go this rout that they might have Psychic vampirism. 'Course blood-cults are common in the Imperium, both allowed and heretical in nature.

In regards to the force-weapon, maybe have a psyker who was there and fell during combat lost his weapon. You could play it that they stumble across it during the campaign. Giving the psyker a choice, keep the weapon and use it as his own, or return it to the school said fallen psyker came from?

hmm very interesting ideas, thanks.

not a problem, glad I could help out.

group of nobles who have lived for ages off of psychic vampirism or similar could work. don't want to do another cult adventure. yet another new adventure idea i might use

Sec Temper Tyrannus

A Noble lord has been assassinated on a victory parade (possibly election or victory celebration). the group has been called in because of the mysterious circumstances of his death (mysterious sniper attack). the arbites are all over the case, but are stumped. i'm thinking either:

> Anti imperial organisation, trying to sow some mayhem. cause an election battle and noble house feud.

> Rival noble house. revenge attack or rivals in election.

> Xenos attack. possibly trying to stop a future event that would have been caused by the victim.

You could combine the latter two; a Xeno race needed this Lord out of the way, and the rival house(s) had the means to do it. Would let you play up the corruption of man in comparission to the rest of the galaxy (Xeno just wanted to avert catastrophy, while the nobles were on board for totally selfish and petty reasons).

ooh, cool idea :) thanks for that, wouldn't have thought of it. would do it so the Xenos would subtly manipulate the events (possibly use the eldar) to their own ends. hmm...ideas brewing. :)
