Archeotech

By CodenameXXIII, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hello, at first i must say that i am from spain so, sorry for my english.

My question. On the page 206 of RT about Archeotech to Ships it said: "These components should only be available if the ship has the Reliquary of Mars Complication, the players earn them through their Warrant of Trade or if the GM makes them available through the course of the game.

"the players earn them through their Warrant of Trade"...whats mean that? I have not see any ....Warrant of Trade table or something where you colud get archeocomponents to the ship.

And, could the players buy with ship points archeocomponents when they build the ship at start?. Thanks.

Presumably it was intended that the Warrant be more fleshed out in the rules, possibly providing benefits and drawbacks. There's no actual rules for it at present though. Possibly in one of the later sourcebooks.

There's no particular reason the PCs could not acquire archaeotech components at chargen, but keep in mind that most of the components are quite powerful. A vessel equipped with Murder Servitors and a Teleportarium will pretty much never lose a Hit & Run.

There is an optional Warrant Path section in Into the Storm, with which you can create the history of your Rogue Trader dynasty. At least one of the options allows you to an Archeotech component when building your ship.

The Warrant of Trade is rather like someones Last Will and Testament or your employment contract. It's a legal document which empowers the Rogue Trader, his dynasty and his staff to represent the Empire, in particular beyond the boundaries of the Imperium. Whilst there's common clauses in the document there can be any number of things attached to it. For instance the Warrant of Trade might grant Rogue Trader status but also a particularly ancient ship which may include archeotech.

There has to be a reason the Rogue Trader has a warrant and a ship at all. So it's up to the GM and the players to decide what the background is. Is the RT part of a distinguished dynasty and just next in line? Is he brand new having served in the Imperial Navy or the Administratum? Is he a noble with no ship experience being promoted by someone powerful to keep him away? Where does their ship come from? Does it belong to the Rogue Traders dynasty? Is it newly comissioned and given to them for some reason? Perhaps the Adeptus Mechanicus is expressing gratitude for an Imperial Navy Admirals fine work in defending their forge world?

All this information is necessary to determine if there's any archeotech aboard the ship. If the GM wants there to be archeotech then it can be there. The imperium is awash with ships that are centuries or millenia old or parts of ships that have served in countless battles throughout the centuries.

In the generic rules you only get archeotech if you roll for it on the table. Other than that you'd need into the afore mentioned Into the Storm Of course your GM can simply allow you to have archeotech if he wants. Just keep in mind such devices are extremely rare.
