Basic Magic and Blessing actions

By Uncle_Joe, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hi folks,

Is there a place in the rules, on the cards, or on the careers that I'm missing that details which careers get which additional 'basic' action cards? There is the paragraph in the main rules under Action Cards that stats 'such as the Apprentice Wizard receiving the Basic Magic Actions', but it never really details what 'triggers' a character to get those actions.

I mean it seems sort of self-explanatory, but at the time, the example Apprentice Wizard in 'A Day Late, a Shilling Short' doesnt have Counterspell (which is listed as Basic).

Does anyone else who purchases Spellcasting get any of them? I'm guess I'm just looking for the 'rules' on who gets what. :)

Thanks!

See p. 31 Rulebook: Step 4. Acquire Action Cards

Right, that's the rule I was referring to. But it seems kind of vague/general. What consistutes a 'wizard' career or a 'priest' career? Only the one of each that comes with the game? The rule appears to be written such that those are examples of classes which should get bonus cards, but that the actual spelling out of exactly which class gets which card is more or less what I'm looking for.

Again, is there a reason that the starter mage doesnt have Counterspell when it's a basic action for his class like Dodge or Assess etc?

It merely says they aquire a "number" of petty magic action cards. It does not say if it's all, 1, a number equal to int/fel or whatever.

Didn't Counterspell show up in one of the expansions? That could explain why it isn't listed in 'A Day Late, a Shilling Short'. I'd give the wizard all the basic spell actions (including counterspell), and a priests all the basic blessing actions.

Ah OK, that makes sense. :)

Still, it would have been nice to have listed on the Career card or something if access is granted to additional Basic Actions.

Also, what is the mechanic for buying them? CAN other classes buy them on a whilm and then cast spells? Any 'bulk discount' for purchasing the Basics? It seems like the Priest/Apprentice classes get an awful lot 'for free' with little downside?
