Dungeonquest has emigrated to Terrinoth, why cant Talisman?

By Gumshoe_nr1, in Talisman Home Brews

Hi everybody!

Bought the new Dungeonquest yesterday and got the charactercards for runebound, wars and Descent.
Absolutly awesome.. then my mind wandered away....

What if we (the community) could re-create the Heroes from Terrinoth to Talisman?
Maybe even a graphic board?

What do people say about it?

No thanks. The last time some company tried to absorb Talisman (3E tried to pull it into Warhammer), a lot of us didn't like that part; it was cheap ploy. I am flat out against another attempt at this, and I think FFG is smarter than that.

It serves no useful purpose, the realms of Talisman don't match up to or fit inside the Runiverse, and Talisman needs to breath and grow in its own more fuzzy space-time dimension.

Custom characters? Why not. If they are good I don't care where they came from. But merging the universes? I'm not so sure about it...

Part of the Talisman's charm is its generic fantasy setting. There are no constrains of one particular universe so anything can happen. Skavens, beholders and defilers can co-exist on the same plane of reality and it doesn't seem wrong. But maybe that's just me lengua.gif

Talisman is ok with his own setting. Sincerely I was not so happy knowing the Terrinoth setting for DQ, but I have to wait until 5th october to try it with my hands. IMO, Talisman's realm is perfect, why change it?

The world of Talisman is one of very light and generic fantasy. To tie it to the Terrinoth world would be too limiting for the game in my opinion.

A couple of heroes from the GW DungeonQuest game were converted to 2nd Edition Talisman back in the day by Frank Kulkmann (under Small Expansions), and there is no reason why you could not just make home brew characters for the Revised 4th Edition.

The only problem would really be that there are a lot of generic fantasy types already in the game, so they would likely only end up as rehashes.

I myself was a bit dissapointed when I heard abour DQ moving to the "Runiverse", the orginal "Drakborgen" is far funnier with swedish name on everything. But I found myself to like it. The whole reason to loot the doungeon is much better and the enemies and loot is much more coherent.

Talisman for me is great, I love it and have several editions and expansions, but contrary to what people think here, I kind of dislike the "generic feel" of it.
Are all Amazons the same? Or is it the same Amazon I play every time?
Link it to the Runiverse, or any other world creates problem, of course, but I on the other hand see benefit in the "storytelling" and progressive gameplay at the same time.
For me its easier to feel for "Lindel" then "just another" elf.
Which brings me to another issue, why cant there be 2 elves or amazons in Talisman? :D

At the moment I painting every figurine (12 to go in Talisman incl all exp), then runebound, wars and DQ.
After that I will probably get on to make character cards for Talisman for the Heroes.

Well share them, as they get ready during the coming months.

I also don't care for the DQ crossover into Terrinoth, but in the case of DQ, it really won't matter; it will have not real effect upon the game. That tie in was likely to revitalize interest in DQ beyond old fans of the game. Talisman certainly doesn't need that trick. Plus there are other issues. Terrinoth doesn't work on the spell system for magic but rather on Runes. That kind of cross over might work for DQ, but not Talisman... at least not without some rework of the game.
