That's what the ad says on the front page with the flash. How many are being printed? I thought it was around 2000 collector's editions? That's actually quite a number. More than either one of the other collector's editions. I'd imagine that it may actually be more available via ebay and other areas long after it's been in print. 500 copies to retailers, so would that be 1500 for their site? Or did I hear the numbers of copies they are making of the collectors edition wrong?

PS: On a side note, I was so excited about it that I ordered by copy on Friday, but I didn't put down my name in the remarks. Anyone know how I can change this?

I would contact the company as quickly as possible. If there is a "help" area in the ordering section where you can ask questions, I'd post it there as well as see if there was a phone number I could call. Chances are they don't have it done yet, seeing as this was just the weekend, but it may not take them long so don't wait.

Perhaps they were using that tagline because the Deathwatch has a similar elitist motto,

"Only one man in a thousand has what it takes to become an Adeptus Astartes. Only one Astartes in a hundred can become one of the Deathwatch."

Yea, I was a bit disappointed to learn how many of them they are making. A maximum of 1000 would have been a bit more of an appropriate number. 2000 "limited" editions at $200 a pop just seems a bit excessive. I'll bet they still aren't anywhere near sold to their limit and its been 5 days so far. DH sold out in 6 minutes (I missed getting it by like 4 minutes), and RT (if I remember correctly) sold out in like 3 days...and that only had 500 personalized copies. This is 4x that number.

If you don't have one yet, I don't think I would worry too much.

I would imagine that the price point is somewhat... daunting. Maybe that is stopping the whole CE "flurry" that normally occurs?

On the other hand, there's about a gadgillion other threads in this forum at the moment that are dealing with exactly the same topic...

So by my point of view the more they print the better.

Yah, I think eBay speculator's are gonna get spanked on this one. Too many available.

Perhaps FFG took into consideration that previous CE's sold out rather quickly and there was far more demand than supply. Perhaps they noticed eBay auctions for CE books and thought that if they made a few more available that supply would be closer to demand and that they, rather than the eBay auctioneers would profit from a few more sales. Then factor in the fact that there are GW fans that might not normally buy an RPG, but might pick this up for the case alone (while $200 seems outrageous for an RPG product, it's peanuts for many GW collectors) and that demand might actually be higher for this CE than the previous two, and I don't find it at all surprising that they've decided to up the supply for this one.

With the complexity in manufacturing the metal case it was probably cheaper to do a run of 2,000 instead of only running 1,000 pieces.

It almost seems like a few folks are feeling a little sore that the Deathwatch CE isn't more 'eclusive', with the large number of copies of it.

But considering the books in the 40K line of RPG's are selling like deep fried crack, I don't think they're going to be too numerous in relative terms. So I'm not too perturbed by it, it makes it easier for people who actually want the book to own to get ahold of it, as opposed to the people who just want to sell it on eBay for a huge markup.

Shenanigans on sold out to quickly, the RT CE was up for sale for absolutely ages.

And yet I've heard other people saying that it sold out in only a few days.

Took about a week for Rogue Trader to sell out, so I can imagine Deathwatch lasting longer, since it has double the print-run.

Not necessarily a bad thing, though.

I remember grumbling about how both the RT and DH collector's editions sold out before I even knew they had been put up for pre-order, and while I had been checking the website almost daily for Deathwatch, I can feel for those who would hate to miss out on such a cool piece of lewt because they were lagging behind everyone else a bit.

With that said, despite my lack of desire in a physical copy of the product* I almost bought one the other night for the potential re-sale value. Despite the somewhat shaky economic foundation for that, I also felt... morally corrupt for some strange reason. Weird world that we live in!

And it looks like this larger supply is going to kill the eBayers anyway, so good call on that. I'll admit I'd been thinking the same thing because I'm almost broke as it is, and needed the money. I still would have felt like a skeev for doing it though. But in the end I decided not to.
