Some "Deputy of Arkham"-Questions

By A. Harbinger, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I finished an epic game against Yog-Sothoth yesterday during which one of my investigators became the Deputy of Arkham. I was playing with the Dunwich Horror Expansion, so three questions occured to me (two of which aren't really related to Dunwich, but anyway).

1. Is it possible to use the Patrol Car to travel between towns in an instant?

2. If you lose the Patrol Car, is there any way to get it back?

3. I don't really get the text on the card for the Deputy's Revolver (as well as the text on cards like the Deringer or the Magic Stick). It says that the revolver can not be lost or stolen unless you choose to. But at the end of the day, isn't it the same for all other items as well? When you lose an item, you are the one who chooses which one, so unless you choose to lose a perticular item, you won't. The only two exceptions I could think of would be the final battle against Ithaqua where you have to roll a die for every item you carry, or when you would lose an item, but don't carry anything except for the Deputy's Revolver. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the answers in advance gui%C3%B1o.gif

Yes. The Patrol Car allows you to move whenever you want in Arkham, and the words "in Arkham" refer to all the locations on all the boards (with the exception of some areas on some boards, you cannot use the Patrol Car to reach the Strange High House in the Mist in just one move)

I don't think so

Well, let's say you have two items you cannot lose (Magic stick and Derringer, for example). You go insane and do not want to draw a Madness card. You should discard half of your items, so you should lose the Magic stick or the Derringer. Because none of these items can be lost, unless you want to, you don't lose anything. And similar examples, basically related to the "discarding items" topic. Hope this helps!

Ah, that's something I didn't think of gran_risa.gif I was like "Well, if you lose your stuff it's rounded down, so if you have the Derringer as a single item, you could never lose it as well"... Didn't think about having two of those items at the same time, but that sounds pretty plausible. Thanks for the answers.

Another use for Deputy Revolver is that it can't be lost to Ithaqua's Start of Battle effect. So if you want to have one guaranteed weapon against him, you can get that.

Another question which just got to me and I didn't want to open a new thread for that:

The rules state that when during the Mythos-Phase a monster moves to the location of an investigator, he doesn't have to fight the monster right away, but during the next movement phase... But MAY he fight the monster during this Mythos-Phase so he can kill it now and move away freely during the next turn? I'm not entirely sure, because I'm playing the German version and the translation has it's share of problems from time to time...

No, monster movement is only for moving the monsters. Combat with these monsters doesn't occur until the next investigator movement phase, even if you want to fight them.

Simply consider Phase V as the Phase during the game, in which the game takes its own actions - and not the players with their characters; these have already the Phases I to IV.

Except, there are times when investigators get to take some kind of action in the mythos phase (Fine and Finn come to mind).

There's an exception to every rule. Even this one.

Yes, the real challenge is finding an absolute rule to which there are no exceptions.

It's already been found. That rule is "There will always be exceptions." No exception!

It can if you get the specific Sinister Plot card against Glaaki.
