A Couple of Newbie questions...HELP!

By meanmunkee, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hey guys, just started playing Arkham Horror and had a few questions:

1) Fight checks are NOT the same as Combat Checks right? I noticed that in the Other World Encounters it only ever asks to make Fight Checks. I think i've been playing wrong as I've been adding +modifiers from my weapons. I'm assuming they just want pure fight numbers (which I know may be modified by certain skill, just NOT WEAPONS). Is this correct? In other words if my FIGHT is at 3 on my investigator card and I had a gun that said +4 to combat check, and I was asked to do a Fight Check +0, would I roll a 7 or a 3?

2) If you are "exhausted" and asked to remain another turn in the Other Worlds as some Other World Encounter cards describe, should you treat this the same as being delayed (i.e. essentially missing a turn?) If so, do you have another Other World Encounter at that location even though you had one in the previous turn that made you "exhausted"? P.S. I'm not talking about exhausting items or abilities. I'm pretty clear about the rules there!

Thanks so much everyone!

Hello.

Q. 1: Yes, you have figured it yourself already - if you are entitled to make a fight check, then you don't use the combat bonus from your gun; exception: you have investigator cards that give you an extra fight-bonus (items, skills, maybe spells; treat this with caution, I have not the complete list on my mind). Combat is a sub-class of fight, and a combat bonus only applies in the case that you are entitled to pass a combat-check.

Q. 2: Again, you have figured it yourself: It is the same as being delayed; and during the next round's Phase IV (Other World Encounter) you get a new Other World encounter at the very same place. (In one case I had bad luck and one of my characters was held at the same part in an Other World for three rounds!).

Thanks so much! My Arkham games will be all the better!
