Books Featuring Psykers?

By Jack of Tears, in Dark Heresy

I was recently hoping to get into some fiction which more prominently featured a psyker as either the protagonist, or a major character but wasn't quite sure which novels to look at so rather than try and find a synopsis of every 40k book out there I figured I'd come here seeking recommendations.

I have read the Eisenhorn books, some of the Ravenor novels, and the Calpurnia book "Blind" already, but aside from these I haven't stumbled across anything else which did much with psyker characters ... so what do people here recommend?

Thanks in advance.

I would read all of the Ravenor books (as it features a Telekine as major protagonist throughout all books (apart from Ravenor himself)) as well as Scourge the Heretic (and its sequel) which also features a Psyker as one of the major protagonists.

Cadian Blood has a Sanctioned IG Psyker as a pretty prominent figure, also has a cool Emperor's Tarot sequence.

Into the Maelstrom has a Navigator as one of the major characters. Not quite the same as a more mundane Sanctioned Psyker, but technically still a psyker.

Obviously the Eisenhorn/Ravenor trillogies are worthy of mention. Eisenhorn and Patience are pretty impressive psykers and Ravenor is MIGHTY!

Cadian Blood focuses more on the officer in charge, but the Sanctioned Psyker in his unit gets a pretty decent word-count. Also the book just flat out kicks ass!

Scourge.... follows an acolyte team. Appropriate since it is the novel tie-in to Dark Heresy and the Calixis Sector. One of the team is a psyker and several other psykers are encountered during their investigations.

In the Gaunt's Ghosts series there is a Sergeant who ends up being a psyker. At first no one knows, including him... Interesting stuff.

Assuming you are not looking for Eldar stuff, so I will refrain from listing a pile of short stories.

If you are willing to include Chaos stuff in your list, pretty much ANYTHING featuring the Thousand Sons traitor legion should fit the bill.

Ciaphas Cain's serie as a null in them and a few of the books show an sanctioned psyker allie with the Inquisitor alto she as a bunch of Insanity Points already!

can't remember is any of the big protagonist are psykers...

Lords of the Night as a telepath as one of the two major characters.

One of the main characters in Soul Hunter may or may not be a psyker.

There's also a navigator knocking about.

The Soul Drinker's series has a Librarian as one of the main characters. Also, check out A Thousand Sons from the Horus Heresy series. Very interesting perspective on Psykers.

Agree with you baradiel, thousand sons is a formidable source when talking about Psykers as major part of a book. qa whole new point of wiew on the mystical art and their user. And best of all it's a good book! In my opinion of course but the Times says the same.

I'd also recommend Inquisition War, Emperor's Mercy, the Blood Angel novels, there's some interesting work mentioned in Desert Raiders. Generally always a good call are novels involving Inquisitors, Space Marines, or Guardsmen.

Ravenor novels,

there are Ravenor novels?! wow i really have been living under a rock...

In my opinion they can't really measure up to the Eisenhorn books. They're not bad, but I just kept thinking that I would really rather be reading about Eisenhorn, preferably without the 1st person narrative...
