Any Players from Long Island New York

By jack merridew, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

i was just wondering if anyone on here knows of a place on Long Island that sells the Game of Thrones LCG

was hoping to pick it up but didnt want to order online

Yeah, The Game Table in Mineola is where the long island players are at. they have all the stuff in stock as well. we are currently in the process of organizing days to play actually on LI, but mostly we just take the trip to the city.

If you google "Game Table Mineola" you should find the store's website. We are in the process of setting up bi-weekly or monthly day when we will meet to play. When we do, I'll make a post here.

If you want more information on when we meet up in NYC and how you can be notified when we do, click here

hey thanks a lot for pointing me to that place anyone know anyplace in the city that sells as well?

also if you don't mind some very noobish questions

- Location cards that reduce the cost of the next player that comes out, can they be stacked? like if i wanted to play balerion the black could i kneel 3 seperate locations to lower the cost by the combined amount or is it only 1 for 1 card

- is there anyway to increase gold locations or characters without getting another core set?

- is there a guide for deckbuilding and styles of play for new players

- the black bordered cards from the first expansion are legal to play in the lcg format? they look out of place and i want to make sure im not using something that doesn't belong

- is there anyway to make a Greyjoy deck competitive without buying another expansion? right now i have about 8 assorted chapter packs is that going to be enough or will i absolutley need another expansion

- On Coldhands card it says he has to participate in the first challenge hes able to, if he has no icons how can he participate in anything?

-is it viable to build a kingsguard deck?

Pasting in your questions so I can answer in-line.

-> The Compleat Strategist ( http://www.thecompleatstrategist.com/ ) on 33rd in Manhattan stocks the Core Set, large expansions, and many chapter packs and will gladly order you whatever packs you want if you ask.

-> yes, you can use multiple cost reducing effects for the next card you marshall.

- is there anyway to increase gold locations or characters without getting another core set?

-> Some large expansions have copies of basic resource cards found in the Core Set, and certain characters found in the Core Set have reappeared in chapter packs (but with different abilities, not straight reprints of the version found in the Core Set). There really isn't market for individual cards that I've seen, so some people will buy an extra Core Set with a friend(s) with each taking the cards for their preferred house.

- is there a guide for deckbuilding and styles of play for new players

-> There's an old one from the CCG era of the game. I think the portion about deck building basics is still useful for the general guidelines it gives. It is located here: www.agameofthrones.com/PDF/agotnewplayerguide.pdf

- the black bordered cards from the first expansion are legal to play in the lcg format? they look out of place and i want to make sure im not using something that doesn't belong

-> Those are "legal" LCG cards. The cards in them were originally planned for a CCG expansion, but became the first LCG chapter pack cycle when the LCG transition was announced.

- is there anyway to make a Greyjoy deck competitive without buying another expansion? right now i have about 8 assorted chapter packs is that going to be enough or will i absolutley need another expansion

-> I'll let one of the community's more savvy deck builders tackle that question. sonrojado.gif

An effect may give him an icon. The mostly likely being one of the "The North" Agendas. ( here , here , and here )

-is it viable to build a kingsguard deck?

-> paging kpmccoy. kpmccoy, please pick up the courtesy phone you have a call. lengua.gif

Jack - we're actually thinking of having a "new" players event on a saturday in spetember. Very much a beginner style afternoon with just core House decks and a few chapter packs - followed by a melee. What part of Li are you from? We'd love to host you and are always looking for new players.

yea i live around hicksville but i can drive anywhere so thats not really an issue when and wheres the day gonna be ?

I'd say no. Especially since most (all?) of the greyjoy staple locations are only in the box set. There are some interesting Greyjoy cards in the chapter packs (i.e. naval escort or Wintertime Marauders), but you really need things like Maester Wendymere, or Victerion to provide you with enough push. And LGR, you modest mouse, you are more then capable of answering this question as you were the only person I know of who had an effective deck using Greyjoy cards pre Kings of the Sea.

Thank you, but so Jack doesn't get the misimpression that I had put together a straight GJ deck without the benefit of the Kings of Sea expansion, I should point out that I had built a Stark with GJ Treaty deck. It used a good amount of GJ stuff from the chapter packs, but obviously it had Stark goodies and had the benefit of the Stark resource cards from the Core set (as well as 3x of each of Narrow Sea and Sunset Sea, which, for the Sunset Sea, requires a person to have 3x of the Core Set or copies of those cards from when they were printed in CCG sets).
