Gene-manipulation and tek-heresy

By Diel Ulricsson, in Dark Heresy

Greetings all,

I am designing a campaign in which one of the major playing factions will be the Logicians... As such, I was considering several plot hooks to bind my scenarios together. For instance, one such quest (which is as of yet unrelated to the Logicians) is that a tribe of Weirdboy Orks in the sector is posing as a threat as they may act as a psychic beacon to a Warboss in a neighbouring sector. If the Warboss discovered the tribe, he might turn his attentions to the Calixis Sector, spelling doom for untold billions etc etc. So basically the Acolytes have to deal with this Orky problem.

Anyway, I was considering adding in a hook where the bodies recovered from the Orks show signs of tek-heresy of Human design, and or, a lab is found where gene-manipulation (Human/Ork hybrid test subjects) is being researched to make a more combat efficient, yet controllable fighting force for the Logicians...

Are ether of these viable options? I remember seeing that tek-heresy was covered in Radicals, so should I check that out?

Orks are a fungoid race, gross breeding them with humans would prove difficult at best. You'd end up with things like some of the odder coraline deep sea growths that are neither plant nor animal...

The orks, in all their forms even Squig, shed spores constantly, so unless the BBEG's can get spores before they've seeded and started to grow and then manage to unlock the gene secrets of them, it'd be **** all but impossible to do i think. Even the Emperor didnt make the Primarchs straight away.

Then you've got the Lore about the Orks being a created weapon against the Necrons by the Slann, much like the Eldar were, whilst Humanity evolved naturally and were not a Slann creation.

All of which has been ret-conned a dozen times since anyone said the Unspeakable S Word....

Aye, I am aware of the fungal and Slann origins of the Orks, but surely some Biologis has attempted to crack the Ork genenome...

Considering on their first encounter the Tyranids recognised the Orks strengths and absorbed them into their number, it would seem reasonable to believe that some maddened heretic, especially in an organisation as advanced as the Logicians, would have tampered with Ork gene research...

That said I agree it would be difficult, and the merging would be very flawed, creating more abominations than a fighting elite, but such flaws are done in the name of Science and Progress! (Having now read the section on the Logicians in DotDG, I am rather impressed with their fluff...)

One very nasty way of going about is...

Genestealers infect a planet, one of the Logicians is around and gets infected. Hivefleet arrives, devours planet but for some unfathomable reasom (aka Plot) the infected Logician is spared, and allowed to flee to a Stealer controlled world that will not be attacked by the Hivefleet as it gathers to much valuble data.

The Logician uses the Brood telepathy traits to both use and be used by a broodmare/nornqueen type thing, and continues his twisted work and thus is very well able to manipulate Orkoid DNA in a way that few beings in the universe are able to do...

A creation escapes from a local beast/gladiatorial pit, and starts to shed spores intermitantly.

Said beast is captured, but no one thinks to look for spores, after all, it's Clearly a 'Nid or Deathworld creature.

Spores travel off planet (via visitors, pdf inductuctions, in fruit cargoes on a rogue trader etc), and grow in to fully fledged Orky things with semi carapace armour, four arms and a propensity to replace said limbs with crude mechanical things...

Now that could be nasty... Genestealer-heretek-Orks...

Close. I think the term we're looking for is 'Stealer-Mekboyz and 'Stealer-Cyborks . FTW!
