Sky Screecher

By freybourne, in Talisman Rules Questions

In our last game my Uncle had encountered the Enemy -Monster called the Sky Screecher. The card says that it your attack roll is lower than your craft you are automatically defeated. It will remain here until it is killed. So does that mean you have to be the Toad or a character with very low strengh to defeat this Enemy -Monster in a battle. How do you play?

Thanks

I would say the number you roll on the di for your attack score, not the total result.

Is it craft total or craft value?

Also, you roll a d6 for your attack roll, plus bonuses. Even if your bonuses are low, like one or two above your value, you still have a high chance of not losing a life.

IIRC, it doesn't say Craft value, so it compares against your total Craft.

I had the same issue with this card just the other night.. strange if I was actually your uncle.

The verbage on the card is very awkward.

I had the Priest (yes, the Priest) with a craft of 6. The way the card was translated, it appeared anyone with high craft could not defeat this creature..EVER.

I participate in the common confusion about this issue. Elliott....?

As far as I know, the Sky Screecher card refers to Craft, not Craft Value. The more cunning and erudite you are, the more will the screeching beast affect you, or something like that. It's an easy-win for Trolls and alike, a pain in the neck for Wizards & Co. Not a 100% thematic card but yes, it has been confirmed as an impossible win if your Craft is too high.

Like old Obi Wan Kenobi said: "You can't win. But there are alternatives to fighting." You can still kill the Screecher without resorting to combat and there are many ways to do it, if you really need to.

The Sky Screecher's one of those annoying Enemies that get harder to kill the more powerful you become. The Shiver Nymph and Ekor are others.
