warf rats

By dolphinsboy99, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I am new to the forums, so if im not formall excuse me.

me and my buddies have been playing for a few months now and love the game, we have run into a few questions.

1) if a plot says that if you have more than one opponent choose one, then it goes to say you and that opponent can or cannot do something. can you use these plots one on one??

2) warf rats, i play the mill theme for greyjoy and warf rats are really good. now the cannot be killed is we are having problems with. im not sure of the name of the plot but the plot where you choose three characters and kill the rest, does that mean you can choose three characters and keep the rats or do you need to keep the rats and two other characters?

3) the draw cap. is the draw cap 5 cards including the 2 you draw from the draw step for the intire round or can you only draw 5 cards per phase. if you can only draw 5 cards a round it kinda defeats the perpouse of all the draw in lannister and martell. so if it is a round is it worth taking space in your deck for draw power?

4)cards coming out of the shadows. if a card thats in the shadows has a "when a card comes out of the shadows" response can it use its own response when it comes out of the shadows?

5)thirst for blood, too powerfull?? is there a retriction on it b/c its just too powerful in my opinion?

6) house targaryan. if you overlay a unique character and a card reduces your force to 0 and kills you because of hitting 0 can i save the character or does it always check and it will keep killing that character?

7)intimidate. if i attack with lets say dragon chasers with a 3 str and my opponents defends with 4str and i pump up my dragon chasers with longship iron victory by 2 does intimidate still check so my 5str would make it to where my oppnents 4 str doesnt count?

8) events. during the challenge phase is it just commen sense when events can be played? like challenges only events and anyphase events can be played during a combat as long as it makes sense right or can you only play challenge events and responses during a challenge?

Thank you and sorry for such a long post.

1) No as you do not have more than one opponent. Best to remove them when playing joust
2) you cannot them to kill
3) in total, including the 2. yes, drawing 5 cards a round is a good thing.
FAQ page 6
The Draw Cap
No player may draw more than three additional
cards per round, regardless of card
effects. Thus, the game rules allow each player
to draw two cards during the draw phase, and
each player may also (through effects and
modifiers) draw up to a maximum of three
additional cards in the course of a single
round.
4) yes, long as it makes sense to do so.
5) no restrictions, I think you meant taste for blood if not, not sure what card you meant
6) you discard the duplicate to save the character
7) Yes that sounds right
8) you can use any phase events any phase, therefore even during the challenge phase, long as it makes sense of course.

hopefully I covered all of those correctly

so for question 6 even though the character has 0 str you discard the duplicate and that ends the check for having 0 str? like if you got 0 str for the phase discarding the duplicate would save the character indeffinantly?

and for number 2, the event doesnt choose the rats to die it says keep three characters and kill the rest, so the rats would survive b/c they cant be killed right? and also does the rats have to be apart of the three characters you have to save?

Okay for number 6, heres the correct answer from the FAQ

(3.19) Terminal Effects
A "terminal effect" is any effect that would
cause a card to become Moribund and would
still cause that card to be Moribund even after
the card was saved.
A card cannot be saved from a terminal effect
unless that saving effect also removes it from
the terminal state.
For example: Flame-Kissed (CORE T103)
is played on Selyse Baratheon (CORE B70),
who has a STR of 2. Selyse cannot be saved
from the effect of Flame-Kissed unless the
save also removes her from the terminal state,
either by boosting her STR, discarding the
Flame-Kissed card, or removing Selyse from
the play area. Viserys Targaryen (CORE T108)
is an example of a card with a save effect that
would remove itself from the terminal effect of
Flame-Kissed.

Rats cannot be selected as a target for a kill effect as they cannot be killed.

Note about the plot Wildfire Assault that the targets of its effect are not killed, but all other characters are. Therefore you can choose your rats.

However, in most cases you'd rather not choose them and choose 3 characters that can be killed instead. This way you will keep your three characters + your rats.

awesome, thankyou for your responses and such good answers!

Is that right? I can't use Mutual Cause (When revealed, if you have more than one opponent, choose an opponent. You and that opponent can't do power challenges against one another this round) in a joust (or similar cards)? Would love confirmation.

Right because you have to have more than 1 opponent, in joust you only have 1.

thats good to know!

i also have one other question,

scouting vessel makes an opponents character not count str. does that mean his str goes to zero as in a term for deciding an unopposed challenge?

Yes, scouting vessel would make the challenge unopposed if used on the only defending character.

However, it is completely legal to have Mutual Cause in your Plot Deck during a Joust game. There are a lot of players who do exactly this because the 3-2-2 stats are pretty good, even if it may as well be a blank plot as far as text effects go.

Phew, I'm glad you posted that- i was just reading through the rest of this post, getting really worried that I'd been playing illegal cards.

Only have a couple of chapter packs at the moment, so have very little flexibility on plot decks- and those claim 2s are really useful...
