Blade in the Dark

By Pedro Lunaris, in WFRP Rules Questions

For the Grey Wizard Rank 1 spell "Blade in the Dark", as it says it is a spell and also a melee attack, do you use the Stranght of the character to calculate damage? Because, to me, even if it says it is a melee attack, there is no Strenght involved, it seems the sword simply pierces the enemy from shadow to shadow. In that case, wouldn't it make more sense to add Intelligence to calculate Damage instead of Strenght?

Thanks for your aswers.

Pg 57 from the core (emphasis mine):

Assuming the action succeeds, attacks generally inflict normal damage. This is based on the weapon’s inherent damage value and the attacker’s Strength (for melee attacks) or Agility (for ranged attacks). Some specific action cards may also indicate modifiers to the normal damage. Spells or other abilities that inflict damage generally have the damage listed on the individual action card, which may be modified by the active player’s characteristics.

Based on that, I'm pretty sure that damage is based on Strength or Agility (for melee or ranged, respectively).

I haven't seen anything that states that damage is based on the stat that you roll to attack with.

Looking at the spell, it's pretty clear that the caster is actually wielding a sword. I don't see why it shouldn't be based on Strength.

I do not have the spell at hand at the moment, but isn't there a part that says something about there being a weapon-equipped or not? I also believe there is an intelligence modifier on it regarding damage.

Yes and no. You need either a sword equipped or an empty hand (for a sword to materialize in). There isn't any mention of Int for damage.
