New Game of Thrones LCG card database/images/deckbuilder at cardgamedb.com

By Darksbane, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

For those who didn't see it in the programmers thread I'm starting a new website focused on card spoilers and deckbuilding and it is now pretty much complete. To check it out go to www.cardgamedb.com .

So what does it have?

Currently I'm focusing on Game of Thrones but plan to branch out into other games. I think in the coming couple weeks I'll be able to have a Call of Cthulhu database going.

A Deckbuilder : this is what I started on first. It allows you to filter for cards, view them with a single click and add them to your deck with a double click, you can remove them from the deck with a double click. You can save your deck on cardgamedb.com and come back and edit it later, you can save it to your hard drive as a .txt or OCTGN file, or generate BBCode to easily post it just about anywhere. Decks saved on the site can then be submitted to the site and once approved it will be posted in the deck section with a copy being posted in the forums.

A Card Search : Since the deck builder isn't very friendly to mobile devices I made a page specifically for searching for cards and made sure it was formatted nicely to access with your mobile phone. The non mobile version shows a list of all the cards with links you can hover over for a popup of the card image. The mobile version shows all the cards with the text hidden and a button to show a cards text and a link to the card image.

A Card Gallery : Since the deckbuilder shows images of the cards I needed some nice quality images to display so I scanned in all the cards at a nice resolution and took them for a trip through photoshop to make sure they were all lined up correctly and color corrected. scanning 800ish cards sucks :D but they are all in.

A Card Spoiler : A more typical card spoiler organized by sets. You can rate individual cards and comment on them.

A Submitted Decks Section : Submit the deck to the site and once approved it shows up in this section. Allows rating and integrated forum comments.

A Member Map : I didn't write this and IMO it needs some work, but initially it does the job. It is a google maps powered app which lets you set your location. I had one a few years back I coded that did alot more once I get the time I'll likely rewrite it. If anyone decides to use it I'd put the pin on your city not house.

A Small Chat Room : Something the forums came with. 5 user limit but can be expanded if people use it.

Currently a work in progress A Rulings Database : This is pretty simple right now but I'm planning on linking the rulings to the cards they are associated with. I've made it similar to a wiki so anyone who signs up for the site can add and edit for the moment.

Last but not least Forums : All this is integrated with Invision Power Board. A fairly advanced forum with all the bells and whistles. It has facebook and twitter integration, multiple ways to brodcast your posts/decks (Twitter, FB, Digg, Buzz, Reddit, etc) to the world. It also has Facebook 'Like' options, user ratings, topic ratings, RSS feeds, PM system, and extensive user profiles.

Looking forward to seeing people on the site and if anyone has any suggestions or sees any errors on the site feel free to drop me a line. I've tested the site in FF 3.5+, IE8.0, Chrome and mobile Safari and all seem to be working well. Thanks to all those in the programmers thread here for the help and suggestions.

I just checked out the site and am now registered. It looks awesome! Thanks for all the hard work guys. This site pretty much has everything I would ever want. LOVE the chat room and the feature to save deck as octgn file! Genius! Thanks again for the work, really been looking forward to this for awhile now!

Um. Yes please. I'm a huge fan. Booya.

I am a little sad though that I can't seem to login via Facebook. :( If I could tie it in, but still go by Kennon, all would be right with the world.

wow, this thing is impressive -- the technological side of AGOT seems to be scaling up rapidly. i'll definitely use this as my primary AGOT database resource outside of OCTGN itself...

I browsed through the Gallery. To who ever did the scanning Really great job!

I hope that once the databases are set up, we can sort / search / query the cards and the images!

@Staton - Yeah the whole reason I started this was OCTGN's deckbuilder was getting on my nerves.

If anyone sees any issues with the decks I generate for OCTGN let me know.

@Kennon - Try linking your existing account with facebook again. Manage Facebook connect is editable under your profile. I missed a piece of data in the facebook connect feature but I'm pretty sure I just fixed it. Connected with my facebook account and it went fine.

Also just fixed a bug where you could save a deck with the deckbuilder but not have to give it a name. Anyone who had already saved a deck without a name got a generic name inserted. The deck contents should not have been modified though (hopefully :D ).

@Stromtower - I did the scanning. Let me tell you scanning 800+ cards is a pain :) . As for searching/querying you should be able to do that now. Try http://www.cardgamedb.com/index.php/GoT/gotcardsearch.html and the deckbuilder will let you do it too.

Glad yall are liking it, if anyone notices any more issues post them here or PM me on cardgamedb.

Great stuff. Thanks for doing this.

We're already spoiled with two great sites (Rogue30's is great for generating custom filtered spoiler lists for deck building inspiration; Dabbler's is the easiest/cleanest way to quickly pull up a card by name) and now this. A deck builder has been sorely missed since Mainn's site went kaput. The possibility of exporting to OCTGN is just gravy.

The chat room might prove useful for OCTGN. It would be nice to have one place where someone could go to specifically find others who are looking to play a game right then.

Site looks good, seems like we almost have more options than we need now. Will take some getting used to. I have been using dabbler alot as its very easy to use. I've already signed up with this new site though.

compliments!!! :-)

Well done! Thank you for all your efforts on behalf of the community.

GREAT site! I will be on here a ton. Thank you for putting this together. gran_risa.gif

Chat doesn't seem to want to work for me, but other than that, fantastic job!

@Huntsman - Thanks, try the chat again, I had a setting wrong so it was only showing up for me and not for any other members.

heh, that last reply was at Husemann must be time for bed if my eyes see Huntsman when it is Husemann babeo.gif

Pure Awesomeness!

Thanks!

That I can easily build and save a deck list *and* export it in OCTGN deck file format is double rainbow good (is that already a lame, dated expression?).

i love this site. every agot player should check it out, especially the deck builder.

I feel like I'm missing something, what is double rainbow good?

I figure I'd let everyone know that I've got the Rituals of R'hllor spoilers up and they are searchable in the GoT Card Search . They will be visible in the deck builder shortly.

I've also made some modifications to the deck builder. You can now add and remove cards you have in your deck by clicking a + or - sign beside that card and you can now filter by multiple sets. So say if you only have sets like Core and the new Rituals of R'hllor you can filter to only see cards from those two sets.

Also for those of you who also play Call of Cthulhu it is mostly done I've got almost all the cards scanned and the Call of Cthulhu card search is up and running. The deck builder for it should be done next week.

You're not missing out on much; here's the video that gave rise to "double rainbow" level of excitement:

Wow, Cthulhu is going to be up and ready soon as well? I think I might have died and gone to heaven.

For those interested Call of Cthulhu should be ready to go.

Also I've added real time graphing and deck stats to the decks you build with the deck builder. The graphing shows how many of each card type are in your deck, a pie chart of the printed Military/Intrigue/Power icons on your characters, and a bar chart showing the number of cards you have of each cost and strength value. Other stats shown are example starting hands, all the incomes on plot cards and an average of them, and the number of cards in your deck providing income, their average income, and the number of cards in deck providing influence. Flash 10 is required for this, some people might experience a slowdown with real time graphing. I would suggest to conserve resources to only click on the graphs tab when you need the information, when that tab is not being shown it doesn't recalculate constantly.

Wow. May the Seven bless you, ser, for all the hard work.

Extremely well done. This is a very user-friendly, polished site and has become my primary source for checking cards, etc. In particular, I think how you've done the deck stats is simply impressive...a perfect example of how graphs are supposed to be used to convey information. I'm just hoping more people use it for card rulings, OCTGN game scheduling, etc. to make it that much more useful.

In terms of improvements, I can't think of anything significant at the moment. I do remember not being able to scroll through the cards already added in my decklist when I was looking at my deck on my mobile phone (Android 2.2), but that may have been because my phone was set in "non-mobile phone" mode, or whatever it is that makes the non-mobile versions of webpages load.

On a related note, is the login page currently down? I previously registered and saved some decklists, but I am now unable to login. In fact, the "recover password" feature doesn't even recognize my e-mail. I don't mind re-registering, if that's the issue, as I didn't have that many decklists saved. But just wondering if this is a temporary thing or if I should go ahead and recreate an account.

Thanks!
