Game unbalanced?

By Jonny WS, in Tide of Iron

Hey there fellow forum goers.

So, I recently picked up Tide of Iron, with the DotF and designers book. I have read the rules and played the first 3 scenarios in the book that came with the main game with a friend of mine.

Now, we have alternated sides of who played the Germans and Americans and we have come to notice that the Germans are quite underpowered.

Now, are we playing the German side wrong? Is there some sort of strategy that we are not aware of? Does the game become more balanced when using other scenarios?

What do the people of the community feel in terms of my questions?

Please note, I am not new to the concepts of FFG strategy games as I play Twilight Imperium, Descent, Talisman and many other games.

The official scenarios are definatly a week point in the whole system. Consider the ones in the rulebook as Basic Training and you will be closer to the truth, Finding the good scenarios are a bit of work, and a lot can depend on tactics and dice rolling. Many scenarios change ballance abruptly with the lucky oneshot destruction of a single tank or specialist squad. Some scenarios can be ballanced a bit by doing a Bidding war, using command points. With the winner being the player that give the most CP away to his opponent getting to choose sides.

Thanks, that helps a little.

Is there a place to go that will have a document, or general good strategy for playing the German side of any Scenario? I tried to find something last night, but the most I could find was reviews of the strategy elements of the game when it was released so many years ago.

If anyone could point me to a link, again that would be appreciated.

My dead gradma can beat the germans in the first senarios. My best advise is to read a review of the senarios BEFORE playing them. For example in this thread;

I have written a review of all senarios in designer series, and I try to guess which ones are balanced and which are problematic.

I only have the base game so far and yes a lot of them are unbalanced; but from what i hear DotF and the designer series has better, more balanced scenarios to choose from.
