Has any Inquisition Scheme/Masterplan ever worked?

By SJE, in Dark Heresy

On for the fiction and canon-buffs. Every other Black Library book has a wacky Inquisition scheme to save the Imperium from Chaos or the Tyranids. This normally so horrifies the associated Guard/Marine character POV as it involves the wastage of entire worlds to test. I'm thinking here of things like the Genestealer disease vector in "Deathwatch" graphic novel or controlling Tyranids in "Warrior Brood", controlling Chaos with the Shadowlight etc. But when have these plans ever achieved the results they were meant to? Each one seems to be made of pure fail.

Now this isnt the Inquisition reacting to Heretics plans- Eisonhorn and Ravenor are successful at uncovering evil plots and thwarting them. But they dont sit around devising a master scheme to Save the Imperium.

The closest I've ever seen of such an Inquisitorial master plan succeeding was Kryptmans scorced earth strategy to turn the Tyranid Hive fleet into Orc-space, but even then it suggests that once the 'Nids are finsihed digesting, they'll be stronger and greener than ever.

So, has any Inqusition scheme ever worked?

Kryptmann's gambit worked pretty **** well - even though he was excommunicated so I'm not entirely sure it counts and an "Inquisition" scheme

I think the question you need to be asking is "Why is C.S. Goto allowed to write books?"

EDIT: I hate this stupid **** forum software.

Maybe, becouse then vast majority of BL novels seems pretty fine and readable:) Never read anything form (horribly in)famous G.S. "Multilaser", becouse I was warned, so ...

I suppose "Inquisition make plan, it goes off without a hitch, people are saved and gumdrops rain from the sky" doesn't make for a compelling narrative.

It depends. How big are the Gumdrops? Some car sized Gumdrops could provide very interesting narrative.

The setting is basically stagnant. The only big plans that ever work are the ones that counter other big plans. If you ever want to know how something is likely to end in WH40K (and many other established settings) just ask yourself what is most likely to have the least lasting change from the setting's status quo.

hmm good question - the Kryptman Gambit did work (short term) and he was restored to his normal status - also who says the Tryanids win maybe Da Boyz will win through. Many minor things do work but there are so many varied forces that effecting the Whole Imperium is not at all easy............(plus as others have mentioned against the idea of no major change)

I'll have a dig around to try and find some examples...............
