A limit on cards in the plot deck

By Undreren, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

As I understand, unless the plot card states that you can have more than one of it in your plot deck, then you can only have one.

The question: Why is it then, that some plot cards states that you can only have one of it in your plot deck?

This is to prevent you from putting more than 1 copy of this plot in your plot deck.

Although the rules already only allow you to have only one copy, some card effects might allow you to have more. In CCG there used to be a Martell agenda allowing you to have 2 copies of one plot in your plot deck. But you could not have 2 copies of a plot Limited to 1 per plot deck.

Wow, I wasn't aware of that! *looks up Dabbler*...

Princes of the South
House Martell only.
You may not run neutral characters or locations in your deck. You may have an additional copy of any one plot card in your plot deck.

(Five Kings expansion)

I'm actually impressed that FFG put those "Limit 1 per plot deck" notes ahead of the time that Princes of the South came out! I guess they were already thinking of having a card break the 1-per-deck rule.

Anyway, the plots that currently say "1 per plot deck" are reprints from the era when you were allowed 2. We actually used to wonder allowed why they kept the text when reprinting cards like Valar after the "1 copy per plot deck" rule change. It's not foresight for cards like Princes of the South, it's retrospect.
