New player advice

By Stereodevil, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hi, i just bought this from amazon, i was wondering if this and Deathwatch can be played by two people only?.

Any advice would be appreciated.

There is nothing preventing you from playing either game with two players. You'll just have to tailor your stories to suit two players, either by towning down the numbers/toughness of enemies OR increasing the starting levels of your players or by giving them access to greater resources then they'd normally get. Better equipment and access to healing can offset an additional player or two when it comes to combat.

You could also alow each player to run more then 1 character but I would typically suggest not going this route as it usually takes away from the role playing element. There are also certain types of stories that work much better with a two player group. There are many movies and novels to draw on to see that in action.

This type of 1 on 1 gaming is generally called a Duet. If you can get it to work, and the two people playing are on the same wavelength, then it can result in some very intense gaming because there are no distractions. Just GM and one player focused on the story. On the downside when it doesn't work it sucks because you have lost the silly banter than keeps most gaming group going. I think WFRP would be an ideal game for a duet so good luck and let us know how it goes.

I've Gm'ed many duets before, and they have their advantages, mainly the story can be woven around the individual character, thus giving the player a much greater feeling that their making an impact in the gaming world.

As someone who writes and programs non professional video games, I find duets easy to do as I'm used to writing stories that rely on a single players input.

Also give the player a hireling (Player controlled NPC) to cover what they can't do, If your player wants to play an educated scholar (Adept) give him a bodyguard (Guardsman)

Simple answer is yes. Complicated answer is long and ends with me suggesting that you get 1 or 2 more players if possible, its more fun when there is a tribe to tell your stories to :)
