Knights of the Hollow Hill ideas

By Undreren, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I was thinking about using Knights of the Hollow Hill as an agenda for my Targaryen deck.

First I thought it was really bad, since I couldn't play cards during setup, but then I figured that I could just have a Valar Morghulis in my plot deck along with 3x Westeros bleeds in my Deck.

That should give me a safe start, at least so I figured. Westeros bleeds is a lot easier to play when you START with 2 influence, NOT based on cards played.

Anyone have any experience with this strategy? Is it a common strat and/or does it have serious problems? I wanted to use it for a Burn/Dragon Deck

I imagine that most people haven't had a chance to use the card, since it won't be released for another month or two.

Oh, didn't know that ;)

Obvious plots to lead with:
Valar
Marched to the Wall
Feast or Famine

Targ Ambush cards benefit from the guaranteed influence, as does Rusted Sword

I think the key is to find a deck that can run on 2 gold + plot gold for the entire game.

Also need some draw, since you do not get any cards on the setup.

Initiative bonus has synergy with Cersei's Wheelhouse, but interferes with Lannister gold producing cards.

Would definitely like to see what others are playing. For example, does Knights of Hollow Hill have synergy with the 5+ agenda decks?

I was looking at this Agenda for a Dayne deck, with southron vessel and starfall you will have gold on your Dayne charaters and then if you ever need extra gold to bring out some higher costing cards you can always kneel a couple of southron vessel's and you have more gold for your house. I would probably want need some way to get those locations in hand and keep them in play though so any surgestions to that would be great as I am still new to this game. Do you think KotHH with Dayne would work?

I do not think that it will work as you are too dependent on two locations. You need both starfall and the southron vessel (preferably more). As long as you do not have them in play you are dependent on reducers. However, you want you influence for westero's bleeds... I think it is too slow and you do not get a real benefit from the agenda like this.

Well my look on it was that sinec Starfall merchant takes care of the Influence of westros bleeds along with your agenda, and you would lose that charater fromn the bleeds as well as using his influence there is no loss. As for the slowness that is was I had concerns about. However Dayne charaters seem to be quite cheap and with KotHH you will be able to get quite a bit of regular gold everyturn when you are not using southron vessel.

I'm feeling a bit stupid: Do the plot cards still provide gold?

I do bleieve so, the Agenda says "You cannot place cards during the setup phase. Other cards you control do not provide a gold bonus" But the plot is not an income bonus but rather your income.

Yes, plot cards still provide gold while using this agenda.

In a melee game, I like using Condemned by the Realm as my opening plot card when playing this agenda. Not only does it kill off a character and waste part of someone's setup, but it has a high gold value too to get you back into the game after complete lack of setup. I agree with Dr. Cornelius that Feast or Famine would be good too, but like he said you will need a deck that relies heavily on plot gold to ensure you don't run short. It does seem like a card that's just made for targ though, especially since it allows you to toss some of the gold producing lands out of your deck and replace them with more Pentos, Xaro's Home, Daenery's chambers, etc.

I have been toying with the idea to build a deck around this Agenda and so far I have come up with Martell heavy event deck (20+ events) since I will not need any other gold producing locations i will have some extra slots in my deck and I will have always a 2 INF to use. So I have build a prototype. It worked fine but never won yet. (3 games), I run a lot draw and put into hand cards and try to control the game. I think I have chosen poor plots to play with, I might reconsider the choice. Also the problem is that i dont usually have any strong characters on the table and valar hits me very hard. That is why I tried to run it with Maester of Sun, but so far never got it in the right combination...

Any tips?

I am just wondering if you would still get Summer gold. It sounds to me like you don't but I wanted to check with other people.

You do.

Are you trying to do a melee or a joust deck?

I was working on joust deck...pure control.

My thoughts are a GJ deck. The influence will help with Saltwife or Maester Wendamyr for their effects, and with events like Assertion of Might. Also more room for locations is always helpful for GJ warships. They have a ton of cheap characters, so it seems like a good fit. That's my initial thought, but I haven't tried it yet. Anyone tried GJ yet?

I think Martell has possibilities, but perhaps moreso in Melee where it won't hurt so much to be slower. You could get out Dorne for a House Dayne deck. Since you'd probably want to get it out soon, you should run 3x or use a Building Season, which will help your opponent too much in the beginning when he already has an advantage. The influence will definitely help with all the cool Martell events, too.

This is my idea: Knights + Cities with low cost characters and Dondarrion with infamy.

1x Valar Morghulis (Core Set)
1x Forgotten Plans
1x City of Lies
1x City of Sin
1x City of Secrets
1x City of Spiders

1x City of Soldiers

Characters:

3x Vendor of Venoms
3x Refugee f the Citadel
3x Flea Bottom Scavenger
3x Dornish Paramour
2x House Messenger
2x Maester of Lemonwood
3x Beric Dondarrion
3x Thoros of Myr
1x Tom Sevenstrings
1x Lady Stoneheart
3x Pyromancer's Apprentice

3x Carrion Bird

Attachments:

3x Taste for Blood
3x Devious Intentions
3x Venomous Blade

Events:

3x Red Vengeance
3x Burning on the Sand
3x Blood for Blood
2x Nightmares
2x Ill Tidings
2x The Hand´s Judgement

Locations:

1x Shadowblack Lane
1x street of Sisters
1x street of steel
3x Summer Sea

i have the core set, the first 3 expansions (one of each) and a few chapter packs, including all of the new brotherhood.

this agenda screamed GJ to me... especially considering i only had one copy of Kings of the Sea. The income generation just wasn't there, and you were constantly behind, trying to catch up to the heavy military hitters (stark, after Lord of Winter boost). The influence doesn't hurt, and there are several benefits from winning initiative :)

I'll likely be playing it for fun this weekend, and let everyone know how it worked :P

I posted a Targ joust deck thought in another discussion, I would be happy to hear your feedback on it. I went with a Winter deck but don't have any idea if it would work.
