Gitzman's WFRP3 MapTools v1.3 & Eye for an Eye Adventure download

By Gitzman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Dudes,

I've just finished puting the finishing touches on the next release of WFRP3 using MapTools (a virtual game table system available for free at www.RPTools.net). In addition to finishing the new version, i have created the first of many WFRP3 adventures for MapTools using this system. The first is An Eye for an Eye (the core set adventure). A Day Late, A Shiling Short is also complete and is going through a few finishing touches.

This adventure includes maps and tokens for the Tavern, The Road to Grunwald Lodge, Grunwald Lodge Exterior, Grunwald Lodge Interior, Grunwald Lodge Basement, and Grunwald Lodge Rooftop. These maps all include Light Sources, Light of Sight layers, and a variety of appropriate decorations and scenery.

All the NPCs and Enemies are ready to go romp around in a high detail map and surounding landscape.

This new adventure includes all of the core functionality of the v1.3 ruleset and is available for download at Gitzman's Gallery under WFRP3 MapTools Resources.

Wow, you are my new hero in the Old World!

I forgot to mention how to start up the dice pool roller.

Once you have opened the campaign in MapTools, click Launch DiceBox in your Campaign Macros. Done.

I apologize for my ignorance, but what is MapTools? Is it a tool to make maps for RPGs or is it a way to play online?

/me lost

Its a way to play tabletop games and role playing games on a virtual table online. it incorporates a really nice map building tool, dice rolling functionality and is heavily customizable. Many people have tweaked it to suit game systems like D&D and others. I have made a WFRP3 module so most of the rule systems are automated while you play on the virtual tabletop with your palls (who can connect to your table and you all see the same thing).

www.RPTools.net is the site where it can be downloaded. They have a bunch of videos with it in action. Well worth a look if you have any interest in playing with your palls remotely.

Man, that is amazing.

For now I'm sure it's not my think, to GM a game using this software, but I would sure give it a try as a player. If anyone is looking for players around the globe, I'm a candidate.

And when I get to live in an ecovillage, that will sure allow me to keep playing every week! :D

Awesome work, Gitzman. It keeps getting better and better.

Up until this point, there was no reason for me to purchase anything dealing with the 3rd edition Warhammer for the simple fact of not having anyone close (region & time) to play with.

Now this changes everything.

This program will give me the ability to play with like-minded folks and a reason to buy the 3rd edition.

Thank you Gitzman. And a big thanks to Nezzir for giving me the ability to the 2nd edition with FG2.

Dudes,

I'm really glad to hear you guys are excited to give it a go. I'd appriciate some feedback or requests for features as you start using it. I plan to do additional updates over time and as i play/use it more.

Gitz, you and I should post some screenshots and a quick user-manual when we get a couple games played.

E,

You know thats a great idea. I hadnt really concidered that yet. I know tons of people have no idea what MapTools is yet and how cool it can be. Maybe we'll grab some stuff from our session later tonight and post here?

I have some nice screen capturing software too, maybe we can just record the whole thing as a flash video (or at least part of it)

Game on!

I'm still poking my way around it and learning maptools in general (quick question do players have to download the campaign information somehow).

I have no idea if this is feasible, but the only feature I see to be wanting is something to track recharging action cards perhaps just a list of cards the character has with the number of tokens on it and a macro to remove one from all of them or something.

The other players do NOT need to have the campaign information, just the player who is the GM. That GM will load a campaign which automatically prompts the other users who are connected to synch with his loaded campaign, macros, etc.

Regarding the second part, about recharge tokens, im still working on how to get that to work. There are a LOT of cards, and no real easy way to make it happen in MapTools that i have thought of yet. Though im not totally out of ideas, so stay tuned on that one.

On a seperate note... i've been hammering away at 'The Journey to Blackfire Pass' MapTools adventure which is really turning out great so far. Its a much larger scenario than i though it would be, and its really quite good. It should be available for download soon.

On a seperate, seperate note... 'A Day Late, A Shiling Short' MapTools adventure is up on the site and available for download!

I don't know as you need the whole card information... really just the name and a number of counters.

Wow, a super huge thank you to you sir for doing this. I had no idea there was anything like MapTool out there and you not only introduced me to it, but also have everything all ready to run for a Warhammer adventure! Thanks a lot for point this out to me and for all the work in the 3rd edition templates you've created.

Stupid forum software and the no edit feature after like 2 minutes......

Just wanted to add that I second Pedro Lunaris' notion, I think I'd be a little intimidated to start GMing something like this until I got really familiar with it, but if someone is looking to GM some with this and needs a player count me in. I'd be very interested to give it a go.

Gitz and I ran thorugh most of the campaigns last night as walk-throughs. I took some notes right off the bat and would like additional feedback if any of you care offer any. As he and I both ran WFRP2 campaigns on MAPTOOL, we found that it was a great way to play internationally with people who otherwise may never have had the chance to play WFRP. I ran With a Little Help from my Friends for a Belgian guy, two Brits and a Californicat..(er, whatever you guys are called ;)

Anyways here are my to play notes so far:

1. GM opens the maptool campaign and starts up a server (port forwarding required). Gitz and I saved the last campaign as 1.3b.73 version.

2. Players join the server using the same version of maptool (b.73)

3. GM assigns character tokens to each of the players (otherwise all they'll see will be the map)

4. Players will need to keep their character sheet and cards next to their computer. Essentially, it's quicker to just do that than to try to program stuff like that.

5. Player will need to announce and apply their own damage.

6. In the Campaign Macros, click on the dice roller. That brings up the dice roller. Notice the "clear" button at the bottom.

7. Party card isn't really worked in yet. It could be added as a character token, or players could just set it aside.

Rules leeway:

1. Movement: each range should be arbitrarily 30'. Engaged is base to base contact.

2. Initiative: You can either go in order or whenever it's a PC's turn, the party can decide who goes.

3. Conditions, wounds, and whatnot are best tracked by the player next to the computer.

Essentially, you still need the game components to play, which is kind of the point of a virtual tabletop :)

jh

Just downloaded, will let you know what I think when I've had a chance to check it out. Regardless, thanks for the hard work!

Cool, you'll get the most current stuff, i Just posted new versions of the files yesterday with a significant upgrade to the RuleSet.

Enjoy!

Gitzman

It's more thorough than I was expecting, very nicely done. Having some issues figuring a couple things out, but that just requires experimentation. I like the dice roller, neatly implemented! For actual play, I think it would be more useful to have the Wounds and Fatigue/Stress windows next to each other, and right now there is an Encounter box between the two. But even so, very nice layout. It allows the game to be played in an organized fashion while still maintaining the need for the players to have some of the components. I can see that this might have some utility even in face-to-face play, by eliminating some of the more fiddly business. Nice work!

thanks!

Im curious what you mean by the fatigue and stress layout. Im not quite sure what you meant.

On that same note, you may want to redownload the (or another adventure) and try it again, i made several interface adjustments to the RuleSet regarding the Stress, Fatigue, Critically Wounded, Death and Knocked out. The newer version also includes a much more robust method for calculating the current status of a token allowing for more accurate data and more functionality to be added easily in the future.

Check it out. Its implemented in v1.35 (all the files currently on the gallery as of 8/28/2010)

Sorry for this small bit of Thread Necromancy but I was wondering if anyone is using this and looking for a player? I recently got the core set and adventurer’s pack as gifts but have no one local to play with. I have a good deal of experiance with maptools and roleplaying in general if not this specific system.

Well Emerikol and I are usually game to play and have quite a bit of experience.

I'm sure it wouldnt be hard to get a roster goign here based on the folks who seemed excited to be able to play remotely.

On a side note, i should have The Gathering Storm completed by this weekend. Man that was a monster to tackle =)

this thread should be more alive. its really a great tool and much work was done to transfer wfrp3 rules into the system.

great work gitzman (oh, and I managed to learn it finally gui%C3%B1o.gif)

I will make some WFRP3 short adventures using maptool and your template soon.
