Supplement you've gotten the most use out of?

By Plastic Rat, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Just wondering what books out there folks have gotten the most use out of as GMs. Personally I have all the DH books published and I love the way they all bring something useful to the game. I constantly end up with just about all of my books open on a table at once when doing prep.

I do find myself referencing Disciples of the Dark Gods the most though, simply because it has so many useful badguys and adventure hooks. Just found myself wondering. Thoughts?

Inquisitors Handbook with out a doubt.

Hmm, seems that isnt enough to satisfy the posting algorithm, this should be

As a GM I'd have to say that I've gotten the most use out of Disciples of the Dark Gods, just because reading it helps inspire missions. As a group though IH definitely sees the most use.

PC's have a relationship with Inq HB to the point its kind of improper....

As a GM, I think my favourite is probably Creatures Anathema just for a nice set of ready to go things that bite PC's, for a long term, campaign overview though I've probably gotten the most use and inspiration out of Disciples of Dark Gods.

Hmmm, I'd have to go for Creatures Anathema or the Apocrypta vehicle rules in terms of usage. As some general idea's for long-term plots, Disciples of teh Dark Gods.

The most I've gotten out of the Inquisitor's Handbook were some weapons and extra character creation bits. but after the character's were created I've barely touched that book.

Inquisitor's Handbook overall.

Disciples of the Dark Gods as a GM is a distant. second, and Radicals Handbook not far behind it.

My players are always shuffling through the IHB looking for new ways to spend their thrones and xp, so I guess it is the one book that sees the most use in our group.

Inquisitor's Handbook , followed closely by Radical's . Soon enough, me thinks Radical's may win this race.

-=Brother Praetus=-

Inquisitors Handbook for sure, directly followed by Disciples of the Dark Gods, then Radicals Handbook, then Ascension and last not least Creatures Anathema.

Inquisitor's Handbook, easily.

We use that book for everything.

Inquisitor's Handbook, followed by Radical's Handbook. Hopefully Radical's will take over, so I can unleash my rage.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I hate the way the IHB is devided up, and dread having to bring an in-progress game to a screeching halt to try to look something up in it.

So, I'll have to say the Vehicles Apocrypha is the most useful in-game supplement to me.

But

Even with an index post-its are v useful and make it quicker to find what you are looking for

Creatures Anathema and Inquisitors Handbook in equal measure. The later provides some nice expanded rules for skills and adds a few options I tend to make frequent use out of while the former has been a wealth of ideas. I love monster books, not merely because they give me something to throw at the PCs, but because every monster has the potential to inspire an entire adventure or even campaign as you contemplate the ways in which they could be used. Disciples of the Dark Gods is a great book in some respects, though for whatever reason I have had a difficult time really getting into it - perhaps something about the writing style keeps turning me away, not quite sure.

I very much agree - post it notes are one of my favorite tools for navigating books. If you feel comfortable doing so, I also find that highlighters can be a godsend, as they allow you to draw immediate attention to pertinent info rather than make you scan an entire page for a certain rule or bit of fluff.

Highlighters, eh? That sounds like a good idea, though I'm always loathe to draw on books, even in pencil..

As for Supplements: mostly IHB, though I've been digging through Purge the Unclean (Dark Eldar stats mainly), Creatures Anathema and Disciples of the Dark Gods whilst planning my next campaign.

I'm surprised at how little use I've gotten out of Creatures Anathema so far. When I bought it I was expecting it to serve as the Monster Manual of DH, but there are really very few generic, low-powered monsters in CA . I end up relying on the NPC/monster stats from the DH rulebook all the time, but rarely the CA. ..

Yeah, being in college for the last ... many years ... I've gotten pretty used to writing all over 100 dollar books, so it doesn't bother me so much any more; hell, you should see my copy of Ptolus.

I don't disagree. The lack of index is a killer. But , if you use it enough, you begin to remember where everything is.

It would have been improved so much by putting page numbers on the list of weapon stats at the back

There is a player-made index for the Inq HB out there as a pdf, its **** handy.

IH without any serious challenge. The lack index was first really frustrating ( who the feth prints books without indexes in this time and age? ). But some home made page markers plus later a fan made index solved the problem.

RH gets the second place. Nothing spices a campaign better than a little Radicalism. Not too much mind you angel.gif . Otherwise some dimwits that call themselves "Puritans" might get some totally irrational ideas...
