Clarification regarding Wither, Gates opening in Arkham Encounter and Elder Sign Item

By MaddockKrug, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello.

1. Wither lasts until the end of the combat. What about a fight against several monsters. Is this considered to be one combat; or is the fight split up into as many combats as there are creatures to be fought? Atm I consider each duell with a monster aas one combat, even when a character fights several creatures in a row.

2. During an Arkham Encounter one character happens to find an opening gate, and he is immediately sucked into it. In the Other World he remains delayed until his next regular movement. Since this dragging into the new world happens in Phase III (Arkham Encounter), does the character have an Outer World Encounter although he is delayed? I ask this because in one of the many clarifications on this forum I have read that a character is delayed in order to make him have two Other World Encounters rather then one ... That confuses me, as the Other World Encounter is in Phase IV ...

3.`The Elde Sign Item reads that it can be used ANYTIME on a gate. So, a character of mine rushes to a location with a gate. Can he use the Elder Sign on this gate before he is pulled into the gate by the dark forces?

I appreciate any support on these issues. Thank you very much.

Hello.

The "thing" about the Elder Sign ... Well, I found it very well explained in the rulebook ... So Question 3 is solved.

1 Each monster is a separate combat.

2 When passing through a gate you are only delayed if it opens up under the investigator (ie during the Mythos phase or an encounter says a gate appears). Being delayed does not prevent you from having an encounter so always follow closely the order of the turn sequence. If you are drawn into a gate in phase 3 you have an encounter in phase 4.

Hello.

Thank you very much. Then I am glad that my instincts led me the right way. :)
