What would you like to see in an official Arkham Horror Online, and how much would you pay?

By zulo, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Ok, I'm talking about a online implementation of the game by FFG.

I'd be willing to pay $6/month. (I'm assuming it wouldn't be graphics heavy, so charging the same amount as something like WoW doesn't seem fair.)

Some things I'd like to see are: a personal stats page (achievements?) as well as global stats pages. I think AH fans like stats. For example, it would be fun to click on the Yig stats page and see that his favorite meal for today was Dexter, but averaged over all time, it's been Joe. Maybe you can take a peek at the stats of a player before they join your game. "Hmm, they've played six games, and were Mark all six games. Sounds like a noob! No thanks." Also, I would like to see a variety of game speeds, from games that cater to people who want to get in a game in an evening, to other lobbies where people want to do just 1 turn per day.

Not sure if they've already said no to this idea, but oh well. What would you like to see, and how much would you pay, if this were going to happen?

It depends on how many additional features they added in, if it were just a graphical replication of the game, I would be very unwilling to pay more than an upfront fee of $60. Keep in mind, I already *own* the game. I'd just be paying for the ability to play with internet friends. I don't want to pay several hundred dollars for that over the course of several years.

Being able to play Arkham Horror online is not something I am interested in.

If I want to play a boardgame (such as Arkham Horror), I'm playing a board game.

If I want to play a(n online) computer game, I play a computer game.

I agree, it would just be a video game. It's not an MMO.

NOW... a Lovecraftian MMO...

;)

I would play. I'm pretty sure most of the guys in my gaming group would too. We don't really get many chances to get together so this would work very well for us. What I would pay would depend on how the game looked and played though. I might go as high as $10 bucks a month...

It would be fun if you could 'buy' the game and 'invite' friends to play, as in, only one person needs to buy the game, and can play with friends. but only actual game owners would have some advantages, such as achievements, selecting play-style, chatrooms, league games, etc.

also, if would be interesting if the same applied to expansions, for example, if I have expansion A and core game, and my buddy only has expansion B, we could play core + A + B. No league games, nothing.

I think it would be better if it didn't have a monthly fee to play, but that new small additions came out every month or so, so, to add a new creature to your cup, or a new great old one, or a new character, etc, you could buy them as DLC in modern videogames. that would be even cooler because you would feel like you're buying something new, not paying rent, and the cost of creating little bits of things is low. You could even have design championships, where people create monsters, let's say, and the 5-best designed have access to all of the monsters in the competition, while everyone else (including non-competitors) have to play something for them.

Maybe a combination of both... if you pay a monthly fee, your game will be up-to-date always, with every expansion.

I do enjoy playing boardgames online with my friends, and, if you check out the sales at the apple store boardgames, you'll agree I'm not the only one.

BTW, a multi-iphone version of arkham? that would be cool.

Hello.

Basically I am not a huge fan of playing a game like this one online - there are a couple of different board game communities available that happen to offer many different brilliant games like Settlers of Catan or something as online games ... But I really never tried it online, because they are no a board games in that way.

What is tempting, though, about your specific idea here is, how the game "really" works! Looking at the three different "communities" I joined so far over the course of the last years I happen to notice that each community has its "own understanding" - or to be fair just maybe their "own way of houseruling" - this incredible game. Looking at this internet forum and some other discussion boards as well I recognize that AH's soul is maybe about the different usage or understanding of the rules? And since there seem to be many very similar, but nevertheless different styles of playing this same game it would be very, very interesting to see and experience the game the way it is supposed to be played. ;)

But tbh: I am not sure, whether I would pay a monthly fee, a onetime access fee or just some kind of occasional daily fee any time I log on ... This would really heavily depend on the online game design, the offered features, the development of your character (what would happen if a character gets terminated by Azathoth?) etc. And here, I think, dies the idea of such an endeavor.

Ia! Ia!

Mad

Whatever it would be, I'm sure I'd pay it. I'd like to have the ability to combine various expansions in different combinations.

Just because billions of people buy Brittney Spears albums doesn't mean I have to like her 'music'. Remember the saying about flies? That says it all.

My interest in playing the game is a lot greater than the people I know who are interested in playing it. And I'd enjoy playing a turn or two in the late evening before I go to sleep, a time that is not conducive for playing with friends. Also, a computer version would allow you to play the game when you are available, and the other players log in and do their thing when they have the time (unexpected card draws, notwithstanding). I see lots of potential for this game if they ever decided to make it.

Oh, I probably would play (but not for any subscription fee), but only as a method to prevent having to worry about set-up, or having a game sitting out for too many days (gathering dust) while I'm stuck doing Real Life Survival crap. I would never use it to substitute for gathering around the table with friends. I got enough online friends for games that can't be touched; I don't need to replace friends that I CAN see with a game that I CAN touch just to add more online blips.

I played one time at 4chan's /tg/ board. I showed up in time for Joe Diamond to have to forfeit, so I took him over. Even though we were mid-way through one game, and it was base-game only, it took an additional 6 hours. Never doing that again!

Something that was real-time (rather than forum-based) might work quicker, but don't hold your breath. FFG has no interest, to my knowledge, of creating a version like this.

I'd play it and I would pay. How much would depend on its quality. $6/month seems high.

What are achievements in AH?

I'd probably be more interested in the solo game version online than finding (and waiting for) players to make their moves. However if there was a time limit on turns (like 5 minutes or less) then it might be interesting because in Arkham Horror nobody really has to move to "do" anything but things might still happen to them. (If you're not there to fight a monster, then IT simply eats your, for example).

I would love to see a solo version released as an iPhone/iPad app. Catan has an app that was really well done and when I saw that I thought immediately OMG FF needs to do this with Arkham Horror!

"Achievements" is a reference to X-box games, not AH.

I would love to play a computerized version of Arkham Horror. I would probably just play by myself so I don't have to wait for others. Even if I play 4 characters I'd be fine with that.

I would prefer an initial $50 charge than a monthly subscription, but I would probably do either because it is a fun game but I am not able to get together with friends as much as I would like anymore.

Arkham Horror is IDEAL for a PC turn based game, and would sell insanely if produced by a decent computer games company. They wouldnt even have to design the game, just the software for it. Listen up FFG watchers!

I'm not sure if AH can be translated well into an online game. Besides, I don't like paying for MMOs. So you buy the game and then have to continue paying a monthly fee for it?

Nah, I'll pass

Besides, most of my action role-playing time nowadays is dedicated to grinding through Demon's Souls(what an excellent game) and I don't see myself getting tired of it anytime soon.

I do not want to see one and wouldn't pay a dime.
