Where can I find info on the Yu'Vath? (spoilers)

By Mr Adventurer, in Rogue Trader

So for GM purposes I would like to know all the places that there is information on the Yu'Vath.

There's obviously the (short!) section in the corebook.

The adventure that comes with the GM Kit obviously features them.

Where else is there info? Or isn't there any more yet?

Thanks :)

Yu'vath info can be found in the GM Kit. That is where info on Void Wasps is, as well as details on the Yu'vath ship weapons.

I read in one of the DH books that Yu'vath ruins contained the corpses of humans attached or wearing strange devices, I can't recall where.

The Psycarus Worm (sic) in the adventure Forsaken Bounty is a Yu'vath device, as it eventually carries the characters to the Yu'vath world in Dark Frontier. It is a Halo Device, so I am not certain if all Halo Devices are Yu'vath, or just the ones we have seen covered so far.

The bulk of the Yu'vath info is going to be in the Main Book, Forsaken Bounty, Dark Frontier, and the GM's Kit "Whispers on the Storm."

The rules on being corrupted by a Halo Device are in Disciples of the Dark Gods page 100-103. However, it is not clear if the devices are Yu'vath. These devices totally corrupt seperately from any other influence, and will not even bond with the being if that being is under the control of another power. I suspect that these types of Halo Devices turn a being into a Yu'vath, and the Halo Devices themselves might actually be the Yu'vath. But that is merely my speculation. If it is true, the info in DDG would be helpful, as it makes for some mean enemies.

As Grand Inquisitor Fulminarex stated, most of what you will find on the Yu'Vath is in The Core Book, Forsaken Bounty, Dark Frontier and Whisper in the Storm (GM's Kit). But most of that is very vague. They are a long lost xeno species/civilization that dealt with a lot of construct technology, dark energy (sorcery of sorts it seems to power their tech) and maybe had a few subjugated races under its fist (humans at least). Other then that, they are pretty open ended.

I tend to think that the Yu'vath might not have been a xeno's race, and in fact may have been a corrupted human empire. The ruins described in Dark Heresy, which are Yu'vath, tell of strange devices hooked up to humans. It does not say if they were forced to wear them.

Which brings me back to the Halo Devices. I personally think that the Halo Devices have been around forever, and the first Yu'vath were humans who became corrupted by them, and spread them to other humans through promises of power and eternal life. The dark constructs could have been invented by this corrupted empire. None of the source material describes what a Yu'vath looked like, and all the Yu'vath ruins described in DH are filled with dessicated human remains. I think the Yu'vath were humans.

Information concerning the Yu'vath can be found on the following location.

1. The Rogue Trader rulebook

2. The adventures: Forsaken Bounty, Dark Frontier and Whisper on the Storm

3. The Dark Heresy timeline

4. The Dark Heresy book: Radical's Handbook page 210-211.

5. The upcoming RT book: Xenos Concordium

The Following is a quick summery of the xenos race the Yu'vath

1. the Yu'vath were a xenos race that lived on the so-called "Hell Worlds" in the Calyx expanse, supposedly the Adrantis if memory serves, before it were counquered.

2. they were a race whose supremecy were build on warp-sorcery and daemon woreship.

3. humans were "integrated" into Yu'vath society as slaves, living sacrifices, tools, labour and other nasty things.

4. the Yu'vath created numerous constructs that survived the destruction of their race including: Crown of Wonders, Psycharus Worm, Warp Maggot, Bone Wardens, Warp Whisps, the Whisperer (the last four as well as many others are collctively termed "Dark Energy Constructs")

5. the Yu'vath were destroyed as the most dangerous and last race at the end of the Avingien (or however you spell it) Crusade, the Hell Worlds virus bombed anbd stripped from all records. Though there Legacy lives on in Calixis and Koronus.

Note: While I cannot dictate your game, nor would ever want to, I am fairly certain that the Psycharus Worm is not one of the Halo Devices that is mentioned in DotDG since:

1. they cannot bond with psykers where the Psycharus worm can only bond with psykers (and navigators)

2. it specifically says that whatever long-dead race created the Halo Devices are unknown (while the Yu'vath most certaintly are not)

3. the desciption of place to find the Halo Devices and the visions seen through them as well as the way they work does not match the desciption of the Yu'vath, their building style, behaviour etc..

According to page 3 of Dark Frontier, the Psycarus Worm IS a Halo device, and it does carry the players vessel to the Yu'vath Fortress. Now if it is not a Yu'vath device, why does it carry the players to a Yu'vath fortress?

Also, much of the info on the Yu'vath is vague and speculative, so it is open to interpretation,

I got the impression that Halo devices were powerful devices from the halo stars, not a specific race.

It did say that the maggot was a halo device, but that doesn't mean that all halo devices are of Yu'vath origin

You are correct. All Halo devices come from the Halo Stars, but not all Halo devices are Yu'vath in origin. The Psycarus Worm is a Yu'vath device.

That seems pretty comprehensive, thanks guys :).
