With 87 players, let me just say good luck to the Tourney Organizer!!! Managing 87 players is no small feat.

87 players! wow!

This is kind of more like the World Championship of Thrones than Gen Con.

FFG really needs to find a way to sponsor some kind of real world championship and do something like fly all the USA regional winners and all 3 GenCon winners to Europe to play in a castle for the world championship against the Europeans.

80 players... We started at 10 am and we finisched right now: 2:00 am of the next day!!!

I lost against spanish jv_oscuro targaryen player... I was 2-2... and finally I won after 7 round of swiss and top 16...

I can believe it... I'm playing from 1 year and a half and I love this game... and the love always help in all things we do.

Thx to my italians great companions... I love them cause they teach me how to play... and they are graet friends...

Thx to Erick and Jonhatan cause always helped me test decks and adjust my errors...

Thx to thorondor to made such a wonderful tournament...

Thx to all of us that love this game and keep it rocking...

I won with a terrible (not fun) Martell 5 agenda...

my heart is for greyjoy and stark... so "North" players let's create a great card so next tournament is for us ;-)

monday for reports... need to sleep...

Ps Thx to Tiziano Baracchi... hope that he will want to draw my card :-)

Hasta la victoria siempre!!!

holy S**T am i proud of you, dear god man -- the most serious congrats, you've grown so much as a player that it's just amazing happy.gif 80 players! 16 hours!!! 11 games!!!11111one

in other news: this, friends, is a serious demonstration of the power of 2-claim plots over 1-claimers with random text that doesn't matter. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Well done, Gualdo. Congratulations! Look forward to the report once you have time to collect your senses and recover.

I'm directly from the tables of the nations cup supporting my friends cause i'm too tired :-)

You are right erick... I played 5 2 claims plot, one marched and one fury...as you suggested for claim 2 ;-)

Bad thing was that in the top 16 all knew I didn't have a reset so splashed the table :-)

This is my first turney and I have to keep in mind that in finals all people knew your cards...

Semifanils, finals and quarte were too easy for me (baratheon, targaryen, martell only wildling agendas)... I drawn "the world" and keep me concentraded... but let's say: when i had to cancel an event I had the judgement... when Opponent played army I had seductive or a traitorous... so the God of the Thrones helped me for sure :-)

The most feared game were 8th finals against a very good stark 6 agendas... In one turn he had 20 chars in games (all strength 5 or above). I had 5... no reset both sides (he splashed knowing my plot and with a great combo: val+dolorous EDD = draw cap at nine > he puts in play all 3 wolves for free plus othe stuff). I were going to concede... but I tried and I did it....

From my side I'm happy taht all my choices about deck building worked. For the mirror match traitorus were the key card of course (thx to erick that for first showed me the combo with kingdom of shadow :-) > some people didn't expect it),

The combo that helped me resurrect in those game were: game of cyvasse to recycle traitorous. I killed in this way 4 army. VEnomus slower killed a 3 duped val and dolorous edd. And finally seductive gave me one opponent army...

But to tell you the truth my opponent was at 26 with 7-8 char (3 armies). He needed 1 power... He played ministerel muse. without doing nothinghe would win... I kiss my deck... I took the last traitorus... adrenaline... traitorus and seductive made the rest... and most of all claim 2 plots... also when I were in difficulty I made some challenges so the 20 char of my opponent get down slower but consiquentivly...

Full report monday ;-)

I love this game

Ps1 I love spanish peooples and want to go to madrid playing all weeks... we want game translated in italian to help it grow :-(

Ps2 we will ask to make a errata for the "The North Agenda". We will open a thread.

ALL players (included me and others that played it in this tourney) would like to put some limit in this (maybe a maximum of 3 agendas should work).

It is definitively not so fun to play but at the moment you MUST play deck or with 6 agendas or one build "against him" to have chance of winning....

Probably with bara expansion rush decks will be more powerful and also with future core set. But at the moment it seems that 6 agendas are not balanced... we want to win with funny decks and not with "army for free" ;-)

This is not a critic cause the game at the moment is wonderful... but, as in the case of errata of fury of the stag or alchemist, a modification about agendas should help the game...

my (our) 2 cents ;-)

ciauuuuuuuuuuuuuu Italians do it better ;-)

Who doesn´t love the spanish people ? ... - "chants into the Walder Frey song".happy.gif

Congratulations for the win. I only followed the top 16 games casually, but since i saw the whole final i think it was somehow the easiest game. Mathieu somehow had an unlucky setup and was defeated in about 30 minutes - at least you had to claim 25 power so that is really fast.

About the north agendas, yep it´s necessary to start a need thread , they are just in desperately need for an errata. I thought they could be erratad to something like you have to claim additional one power more for every additional agenda - just like you are running 4 agendas so you need to claim 2 for the 1st, 3 for the second, 4 for the third etc. ... (2+3+4+5= 14) 14 additional power.

About my very own personal record "record". ;-) I decided to play draft instead of melee on friday afternoon/evening i played 2/2 with a Greyjoy/Stark deck. I read that 40 players patricipated in the melee event it was won by Jakub from Poland. That evening i got late to bed ( i think 2 am.) but i remeber taht people who participated in the melee got to bed about 1 1/2 hours later.

The next day there was the biggest agot event in FFG history the 80 player joust. Personally i didn´t want to play mainstream and have something different- holy/asshai Baratheon. I don´t want to go into the details because it was too painful for me ;-) , just as quick note i played against 4 Lannister variations (with one very creative deck by Frederic) and one Martell, Greyjoy and Targ deck witrh a total record of 2-5 placing 61st (ouch!). ... The deck is now torn apart. happy.gif Anyway i t was a great event and Gualdo really deserved to win, maybe the magic head of Kabe helped to take the win in the final.

In general i must say the meta is ín my opinion a little bit boring right now, that Lanni/ Martell builds with wildlings/ nigtwatch seem to be over the top, i wish there were some rewards for players playing without neutrals (3-6 agendas and the usual stuff). or at least a more effective penalty for players using X agendas. Well we will see if future releases are able to change the meta defining cards. The joust started at around 9:30 a.m. and the first 7 roudns lasted till about 7 pm. than the better players got to the top 16 ... i went for the highlander Legacy.

I managed to win the highlander tourney, i played against Frederic (it was his first legacy highlander tourney and hopefully not the last), Michael, Diego and Alan. So after all i played 4-0, the first 3 players all played the same house and agenda. Make an educational guess what all theses players played ?! - hint: we were discussing about banning the agenda for future highlander events afterwards.

So since the joust final lasted till 2:00 am. it also got a little late to bed - i was asked to be something like the main judge because Frederic who is considered to be the guy who knows the rules had his buddy (mathieu) playing in the final.

On sunday we finally played the nations cup which i supposed to be a fun tournament, i´m actually not sure who won since i had to leave a liitle earlier. Anyway it was a nice atmosphere since most players brought along their second tier decks , experimental builds if you want to call it so. My teams first game went 3-3 (we won because our opponent had one time win in his record. The second round was our totally doom, we lost all 6 games. Kudos to the french players and their team Prince´s loyalists here- spoiler: because they alll want to play Martell, they are going to play Martell and the other 5 houses with a Martell treaty at the next nations cup event. :-)

And finally we saw some art spoilers for upcoming AGOT cards .... Cuthulu at the wall with castle Stahleck in the front looks really cool, thanky to Tiziano and Franz Miklis and thorondor for the idea to create these unique pictures. The artists were at castle Stahleck and they did ( i think 3) cooperative artworks which were all great, however i loved the idea of Cuthulu at the wall. We said that they had possible to hold back the pictures for an april prank- "we decided to have cuthulu/agot lcg instead of two different games".

~The worst news about this weekened is that i wasn´t able to design neither Ser Gregor Clegan nor Ser Gregor´s boots.

I hope maybe Gualdo take this Gregor charge on :DD

Anyway congrats to Gualdo's amazing feat to won the biggest AGoT tournament ever. Well deserved, champion!

It was an amazing weekend with great peoples talking and playing the wonderful game :))

If I'm not so exhausted I would be more constructive.

Thanks for All and special one for Wolfgang (Thorondor) to make the whole event again and every time it gets better and better!

Andre

A huge congratulations to Gualdo for the win, bravely fought without! A very well deserved victory for an awesome player and a truly great gentleman.

The Tournament was really fantastic in every way possible: The venue was great, the organization was very well done (go Thorondor!), the atmosphere was intoxicating (as was the beer :P), the players were brilliant... it was really undescribable. And there's no way I'm missing this next year either!

...plus I still have "Walder Frey, Walder Frey, Walder Frey..." ringing in my ears. :D

...and am quite tired from the lack of sleep, and grueling participation in both the Melee and Joust.

I'll try to get some kind of Tournament report written tomorrow, but for now I'll just start a new thread (as was proposed) for the discussion on the Agenda decks, and seed it with some of my own thoughts (or possibly rants) on the issue.

Anyways, a huge thanks for everybody for making this one of my best weekends ever, and hope to see you next year as well!

Congratulations Gualdo for your victory!

The weekend was fun, but also tiresome, mainly due to the kingsmoot melee which lasted til 03:05 and the lack of sleep caused by this. I'll have to try to better keep the shedule next year.

For the kingsmoot there were initially 42 players on the list, and I was already starting to curse because naive as I was, I only prepared 32 player sheets, with some reserve sheets for up to 40 players. Thankfully one of the players dropped before the tournament (he wouldn't have been able to participate that long anyhow) and I myself forfeited my participation (which was definately a good idea, so I had enough time to prepare the tables during the rounds, and I had a good chat with Frank Milkis (very nice guy)).

So we were finally 40 players, 10 tables with 4 players each. 3 rounds with a timelimit of 90 minutes and a final table (once again sorry for the mess up here, I'm not used to organize tournaments (only once a year at Stahleck lengua.gif ) so this whole strength of shedule thing is a bit new to me).

Final table consisted of:

Jakub from Poland (Martell)

Henrique from Protugal (Martell)

Pablo from Spain (Martell again)

Alberto from Spain (Greyjoy)

Jakub won this tournament. He actually managed to win all 4 games he participated in. Henrique made a big mistake the last turn (wrong order of attacking), or else he would have won.

Houses played (if I recall correctly):

Greyjoy: 10

Martell: 9

Stark: 9

Targaryen: 5

Baratheon: 4

Lannister: 3

Next day, the big Joust tournament:

There were indeed 80 participating players. A big thanks to Yannick for handling the organization, especially considering all the troubles you had with the tournament software.

I managed to get into the top 16 with my Baratheon Summer Asshai Shadow deck (my "Lord of Light & Shadow" deck happy.gif ), where I immediately lost against Philippe's (France) Stark 6A deck (the second agenda deck I encountered during this tournament, the first one was Jeff's (Spain) Targ 3 wildling Agenda deck, which I also lost to).

During the game against Ingrid (Spain) and her Martell Summer deck, I also learned that using Confessions and the Altar of Fire against the Red Viper is called the "Terminator" solution, because you eliminate the Viper before he gets played/born... gran_risa.gif

As usuall, the spanish guys (and girls) were just as crazy as last year. Thanks also to Ingrid and her boyfriend for being brave enough to show up in their Lannister garments, which looked really good. I guess I'll have to make me a Stag helmet for next year.

And while Drakey still has the "Walder Frey" song in his head, I'm stuck with the "Gualdo Frey" version. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Meeting almost all of the players from last year was just great (Hans/Castorp, Kabe the Crazy (spaniard, what else), Wolfgang (of course), etc...)

But I was definately a very big pleasure to meet Antti (and his lovely lady who tried to convince him to loose during the Joust so they could go taste some wine... gran_risa.gif). I forgot to ask the nick name, but I guess that would be you Drakey?

It was great fun, and I'll see you definately all again next year.

Gilles

P.S.: And we will never ever mention the Luxembourg participation in the WH:I Nations Cup again, where we even managed to place ourself behind the fake "Holland" team consisting of 3 german players who thought they would place last. sonrojado.gif

Hey gualdo! I'm the 26 power guy. Very pleased to play against you. Achieving 26 power and loosing is really an EPIC story to tell to my friends here in barcelona.

Congrats for the win and for such a good anticipation of the metagame. 4 traitorous crow (one of them played two times thanks to the game of cyvasse trick) and one seductive promisse was more that what I could handle. I hope you liked my edd+val combo and the 11 drawing trick in one round.

I also agree 200% in restricting the number of the north agendas at only 3. I prefer this solution, cause giving them more power penalties will extend the top8 games too much (they are already too long) and it's not good for the organisation of the tournament. I would vote for an urgent FAQ to recover a healthy metagame.

Gualdo Frey!!!

'grats to Gualdo for the deserved victory... He is the one who has done the most for the italian community, and a lot in the international one too. I hope the sheer numbers of the tournament make FFG look at Europe with more respect ;)

@Gualdo: It's a pleasure to see that all this painful training games against the infamous X-agendas deck gave some results! ;)

I had a great time and meet the funniest people, and gave a "face" to many web names on forums and old tzumainn. Spanish were just crazy, i loved them all! Thanks Kabe for the prizes, Stukov, Aioria, all of them =)They are a great community and they play AGOT at the highest level, and have loads of fun doin' it :D

The german guys I matched in the booster draft, all of my opponents in joust, spanish and the french ones i met in nations cup... all of them were simply... great people to start with. Even when i was losing badly i was enjoyin' it.

Legacy highlander was the cherry on the cake, finally I had a chance to play my Lannister 80-cards toolbox deck in a real tourney, and it was a blast. I finished fourth, but the first 3 were Baratheon Brothers deck, so I take it as a little victory for me! :D Too bad there was top 16 of joust in the meantime, so maybe more people would have joined this great format ( i think we were like 10 playin' higlander)

The friendly matches with Old Ben and his Martell-defenders of the north were the funniest ones i had in the weekend. I played Arthur Lannister from the french forum sunday and they were great, too... crazy games with a lot of struggle! I will remember that "to be a wolf" for a long time :D I would recall all the games (Claudia from Portugal, Archer from spain, and so on...) but it would be too long, and to my memory's fault i can't remember all of your names, but you know who you are...

And finally a very big thank to Thorondor for makin' all of this possible! Cheers!

to FFG :

+ban Brothers at war agenda ( I know few cares, but it takes so little to make us happy!),

+errata the 6 the north agendas in some way - they are just wrong and flattens the game.

+And give us back redemption stuff, i'm lookin' for my Lannister crystal house card!

and remember: Italians do it better!

Ciao

Dondiego

Wohoho!!! Was a wonderful tournament! I really really enjoy it!! :)

Finally i could enter the top 16 with my weird martell brotherhood castling Lord Beric deck to lose vs Lannister kneels ! *sob* :_P

Congrats Gualdo for the victory! :) I have the pic with your contract to invite Kabe to a "supermarket licour" :)

WALTER FREY WALTER FREY WALTER FREY!!! .... ¡¡¡ESPAÑOLES!!! AÚ AÚ AÚ xD

Next time the victory is ours!! :) (The nation cup was our)

I agree to do something vs north agendas but do nothing versus Lord Beric with taste for the blood xP (Just sit and wait for the win :) )

P.D: When i arrive home i will upload some pics :)

Ok, I will write some words as well.

1/ Big thanks to Thorondor for organizing this Event as it's was great fun again.

2/ Congratulation to Gualdo... I think i have to start playing via this Online Device against you finally....

3/ The Kingsmoot tourney was great fun. I really like this format. Also, it's good to have it as a starter. Beer does not necessarily reduce the performance in KM - maybe it even improves the performance.

4/ In the joust tourney I used my Martell Maester Deck (King of Summer). However, I did not anticipate the current Meta very well.

1) First game was against a Martell Deck with no Agenda. It was played by Sato if I remember correctly. The game went well for me so I won although I started to realize that "He calls it thinking" might have been a good idea.

2) Stark 6 Agendas. This game dragged on forever. However, it was fun. If I remember correctly, I got rid of my own Viper via NOT attacking while I had a Valar Dohaeris revealed. sonrojado.gif

3) Here is some lack of memory... I guess it must have been some Wildling stuff....

4) Stark with Tully flavor. Was a fun game against Estefania. She managed to kill the Viper by blanking him with "Frozen Moat" and killing him with "Routing the Charge" in an Intrigue Challenge - I was puzzled.

5) Martell Wildings - against a guy from Czeck whose name I also don't remember. Now, I saw how my Deck could have been improved: Just run Wildlings. We managed to play a second game in time. Yet, I didn't came close to winning.

6) Stark again with a Tully flavor. I managed to take this one home...

7) Martell Wildling - sea above bostezo.gif

So, in the end I was wildlinged to death (at place 58). I really would have liked to play against Targaryens or Greyjoy with my deck, as I realized that Martell Wildling decks are better after the first two games... It would have been more interesting.

5/ The loudness level in the "Knights Hall" (Rittersaal) is a little to high for me. I wonder how the Spanish guys have a voice at the end of the evening. The Walder (Gualdo) Frey song was again really cool and funny - the other chanting not so much.

6/ The Agot Nations cup was the coolest event. As one got to play some really odd decks - Greyjoy 6A Discard Deck... or I played a Lannister Deck which I didn't since I started AGoT. Also, my Stark Direwolf Winterfell Rush took a bite of the portuguese Lannisters and lost. preocupado.gif Thanks to Kilian, Eddie and Gleb for letting me join the "Frankonia Plus" team - it was great fun.

7/ @Gilles It was nice meeting you again - a great antler helmet would be definetely cool, I think I will join the Baratheon side for a while...

See you next time.

C

@Jekothalep: Yep, that was me! Was very much fun talking with you, and your Lord of Light & Shadow -deck was really something to watch in action. Made me wish I could've gotten my mix of Rush and Holy -discard working... Too bad you really missed out on some fine wine tasting with the portugese guys since you had to play in the Top 16. ;)

Short-to-Medium Tourney Report:

Friday, Melee

Deck: Was going to play a thought out Martell Melee deck, but instead settled on a two-player Siege of Winterfell (with renown and direwolves!) deck that I had never played myself (constructed it as a practice opponent for my Joust deck), and which I didn't have any Stark cards to tune with... So I just put in some more Meleeish plots, and it seemed to work decent in a simulation of 4-player kingsmoot by two players. At least no-one was going to expect my surprise Sansa (KL) in Melee. :P (A possible reason that I didn't play the Martell was that a certain someone wanted to join the Melee and really likes Martell... gran_risa.gif)

Table 1: Two GJs and a Targaryen. Three Valars, one Wildfire and one Threat from the North. Bear Island and a pile of Frozen Solid Warships. Many triggerings of Rhaenys' Hill. Every other table ended up waiting for us for some reason... Last turn (after time was called) managed to trick the Targ player into triggering his Rhaenys' Hill during my military challenge, so that I could cancel it with Borderland Keep. (He wanted to see what I was gonna attack with before choosing which monstrous pile of characters to use against me) Lots of banging of head on table ensued. And somehow I managed to take the win.

Table 2: Two other Starks (one 6-agenda and one clean) and one Lannister. With GJ Treaty. Freaky. This went pretty easy, playing whack the mole on the big armies with Bear Island. Gathered some power, had some fun with direwolves and when I saw a good possibility to go for the win I took as many titles as I could and rushed to the 10 power. Siege + Treaty gave me a bit of a bias, I really only had to fear the portugese girl with the clean Stark deck.

Table 3: Two Targs and a GJ. One Targ was running Agendas (maybe 4?) and second was Summer. I didn't hit any of my draw or resources really, and didn't know to expect the Wall from the Targ. He got 4 titles, and there was no way anyone was going to take any of them. So, I kept the initiative title, and once he was in sight of victory offered him the win by attacking me twice unopposed, so that I could squeeze second place by having one more power than the second Targ. Not like he wouldn't have won anyway, but at least I felt like I did something. :)

So, 26 points and a decent showing. Not bad from a 2-player Siege -deck. And I usually don't even play Stark... (decided to play it this time, since it's thematic with me being from Finland.) Was tied in points with people who got into the final, but was dropped out due to SoS. Ended up being 6/40. Oh well, at least I got to go to sleep at 1.30 AM (we had started after 19 PM). With Joust beginning at 9.30 AM and I still hadn't cut my deck to 60 or written the decklist. Uh. I really have to salute Jakub who won the Melee (so played up to 3 AM), and also played to the Top 8 in Joust next day. That's one feat of endurance.

Saturday, Joust

Deck: A pretty usual Baratheon Power Rush chassis, with added control elements (3x Wicked Seductress, 2x Kingswood Trail, Shadow Margaery, 2x Nightmares) to combat the Agenda Decks and Summer Agenda for draw. Deck worked good, too bad the player hadn't practiced enough and was pretty tired from the Melee still... Car worked, driver needed changing... Decklist available if someone is interested.

Game 1: Mirror match against another Baratheon Summer. I made a huge mistake and managed to kill my own Mel with Red Wedding, as I hadn't practiced against other rush decks... Practically gave the game away. Auspicious start. :) 0-1.

Game 2: A portugese 5-agenda Lannister. The Stars were right, and I managed to control his chars with trails, Margaery and Nightmares (Nightmares and Marg both blank Traits also...). Finally eked out a win on plot 7. So much for rushing, but at least the deck doesn't run out of steam after turn 4. Afterwards heard that my well-timed Nightmares were gonna give the guy nightmares... 1-1.

Game 3: A really wierd Lannister Noble Rush -type deck with Death By Payne's, new Khal Drogo and other weird stuff. Totally caught me off guard, and wiped the floor with me as I didn't know what to control and got my nobles killed. This was going well... 1-2.

Game 4: Targaryen Dothraki deck. Easy to keep controlled, and Rhllors Blessing helped keep my nobles alive against burn. 2-2.

Game 5: Siege of Winterfell deck. Got complacent and let him get too far ahead in power even though my deck was running smooth, finally managed to stop him at 14 power, and then control his armies enough to win it by one power. Really tight. 3-2

Game 6: A 3-agenda Martell. Nothing fun or good, had a small chance with Trails, but he drew a lucky Climbing Spike with Val and so both Trails were hosed. Several turns of grinding the power out of me ensued. Oh what joy... and that meant I was out of the Top 16... and going to go drink some wine instead! 3-3

Game 7: Played Nuno, a fun portugese guy playing Lanni-kneel who was going for a wine tasting in town also, so we played our game really quickfire! The game was hilarious, after a few turns everything was getting knelt on both sides, he got really close to winning, but finally I managed to somehow close it out first (at plot 8 I think). Afterwards joined up with him and the other portugese for Riesling at the Winestube. GG! 4-3

Ranking: 30 out of 80. Pretty good for a finn with not much practice lately... ~And I still think I was ahead of almost as many players as the GenCon World Champion, right? :P

Awesome weekend, even though one italian did it better!

Ciao! See you guys next year!

- WWDrakey

Came back home and here my report about this great WE... life is magical and when you think you cannot do it... starts "your moment"...

We arrived at Frankfurt "Ryanair" airport friday at 9 o clock and we moved quickly to the castle... I had a terrible week of playtesting...

Dondiego almost killed my 6 agenda deck martell every time I played against... He knews it very well cause we tested a lot and he knews my weakness and with a control targaryen deck (based on hills) it was impossible to me to play...

I spent a week thinking about soul problems :-) I am a Stark - Greyjoy player and I wanted to play them... but to have a chance to win I thought it was not possible this time to play them... and If i make a great tournament I wanna at least start with possibilities... so the only hope was multiple agenda knowing almost all of them will be heavy military - low control...

Why martell???

the only answer is this: cause they have responses to my weakness and to all the weakness I would have facing a heavy military 6 agendas deck.

After I will speak about the deck, now let's focus on our journey...

Friday morning I started testing deck with italian crew (we were 8 players 2 supporter and one artist: Tiziano :-))

I didn't feel good with the deck... I lost several match in the day before at 25 points when I needed 2 more so I thought the most logical and statistic solution were to... an agenda :-) Let's put off the power NW one :-)

I always play valar in my decks... in this one it cannot work cause I expect to face at least 2 opponent valar before finishing and I cannot add mine... I tried to put wildfire assault but I never never never found it useful... If I need a reset I want a big one and not a "middle way"... so another great move were:

let's open other decks and let's take a claim 2 one instead of wildfire... a casual one...

I started thinking about making melee but I were pretty unfeeling well (never playe kingsmoot) so I made draft one... I started in 2009 and I didn't knew any single card... I lost all the games badly cause I created a very very very very bad deck... I let pass "arya 5KE" and other staff to make a very very very bad greyjoy deck... I lost every single game continuing asking about other card text... not fun anymore and not a great start of the WE: all lost matches :-)

No sleep at all and let's go to the Main Event... Joust Tournament...

9:30 am

After entering the house I were impressed about the crowd... amazing...

here's my games... I start apologizing about the fact that I cannot remember amost all names... only nationality... I faced all greats players and all of them were skilled... not a dead game in Swiss rounds... I had to fight against each opponent very closely...

1st Game 0 -1

Gualdo vs Spanish Targaryen Player

Which is the better than start with a very huge LOSS??? I was in control, I think 15 -0. He played valar. I re-splashed the table... BUT... he had 2 to be a dragon in discard pile... He played street wife and infinitevely recycled its dead pile. I killed one and recycled. I didn't draw a single venomus to get rid of street wifes and I lost... Great Combo. Great player.

2nd Game 1-1 WIN

Gualdo vs Portuguese Stark "The Wall" NW deck

I think: PROBLEMS PROBLEMS PROBLEMS :-)

First plot he searched for a The Wall. I searched for a gold income location cause I don't play nothing in this deck about location :-)

I tried climbing its wall with my wild attachement but a frozen killed it.

and I think: PROBLEMS PROBLEMS PROBLEMS

A Routing charge kill my army. But when the Free Folk King entered game It was so good and blanking The Wall made the game be won by me quite easily.

(All portuguese players were so nice with me and I thanks them for their support and friendship)

3rd Game 2-1WIN

I remember a stark winterfell siege. But I cannot remember the game. I'm really sorry. I only remember that I won quite easily... it is a match up impossible for him due to my control + strength in military

4th Game 2-2

Gualdo vs Spanish Baratheon Guy LOSS

Starting I felt I could won quite easily but one of my "threat" were coming... Ser Davos to saving with money and most of all Stannis Baratheon... I don't have lords... and If game of cyvasse is not in hand I have serious problems :-)

And so Baratheon killed the armies quite easily. If I don't face my 8 cards to draw and not face game of cyvasse in the first plot cycle it is getting difficult :-)

-

Thx to top 16 rules ant swiss seven rounds I know that I have some possibilities... but since I know also that it is very difficult I begin to play free... without stress... let's try to do it...

-

5th Game 3-2 win

6th Game 4-2 win

7th Game 5-2 win

from these games I remember only a Martell Summer deck... I feared most of all influence + bleeds and saving viper with the maester of the Sun... I draw very well in that game and made it to win quite easily also because Viper came out later during the game and not in the start.

I'm really sorry about this "hole in my report": hope someone will fix it but my brain remember only starting to the moment when I realized I was 14th and so did it to the finals...

I was increadibily happy... My italian friends and spanish guys supported me a lot... this is the kind of feeling that I loved the most... competition but without nervous moments... all of us have made at least one rule error but no complainings... no referee call or so on...

8th finals WON
Gualdo vs Spanish Metamagos 6 Agenda Stark

Nightmare Nightmare Nightmare

EPIC EPIC EPIC

He knew I think I didn't have reset. He made an incredible combo. He had the best agenda deck I faced. All things were perfect. I think it was the "Perfect" 6 agenda HARD MILITARY deck. Luckly for me I expected to face this kind of deck and prepared some trick. But I didn't thought about a deck could run so well. So:

"Please god help me... Buddha if you are listening show me the way and I will follow you... if others god would help me I would appreciate... I'm not a racist... I love all of you :-)"

I were going to drop... impossible to face... Val with 2 duplicates. Dolorus Edd... draw cap at 9... Fury of... so much gold so much cards in play... he had I think 17 characters in play. 80% STR 5 or more... Wolves played freely STR6... Armies... Army no kneel in attack... terrible... Then Benjen core set to recycle dead piles... terrible with val still in game...

I don't know how much the game lasted... It was "infinite" and my opponent helped me a lot making "math calculation" :-) And since no time limit were in place he was so kind to don't press me... a real gentlemen... a true champion... I asked him information cause my head was "going out". After calculating stealth and total STR...

"If I attack with 32 and stealth those char you can defend???"

...he always helped me saying, no, my total stealthed STR is X and so on... Those kind of game (How much it lasted? 1 hour? 2 hours?) would be very bad with a unkind player against (And I never met one during all the tourney)...

I resurrected... thx to the the moves I had thought about this kind of deck... but too lucky by my side to have drawn all of them...

2 traitorus... and 2 armies went down... game of cyvasse to recycle my traitorous... I think this move were "new" for metamagos and he didn't expected that... recycle the traitorus were my best move in all the tourney... all the decks multiple agenda I faced didn't use the traitorus... this was the key I think about my games... and recycle them was such a crazy help to my resurrection...

So... 2 traitorus 2 armies lost.... recycle one traitorus... one amry lost... there is still one army in play in my opponent side, the NW one (first of all I focused on the wildling ones cause stealth was the key factor in our game)...

I'm getting better. Now the table is quite balanced (my 5 - 2 claim plot helped a lot to return in game)... BUT.... he is at 26 power... he needs only one and i'm at 15 (10 more needed).

All my plots except Fury has low initiative... he plays the Ministerel Muse plot. I think I played a Power of Arms (another key factor for mirror matches that almost nobody played against me)... He has more STR in play than me... 2 armies... It is lost I think... and I sayed... Let's try the TOP DECK DRAW... my friends laught and I laught with them... stress went out cause it was with no hope for me... I kissed my deck and took 2 cards:

1- orphan of the grennblood

2- traitorous crow

this is love

I stopped smiling... cause I had the best draw of my life... in the moment I needed... this things can happen... and I can win now...

traitorus, last army wilding go down.

orphan blocked another char and finally... the winning move...

I had in hand from a lot of time a seductive... I waited the right moment... and the moment came... Last army stolen (i cannot remember if I did this this round or the one before)...

In few rounds the game ended... I will remember this game forever... it was the most exciting game in my tourney and I think the people that attended this "never ending" match were very excited... at least because it was finished :-)

Nothing more to say about this struggle... metamagos showed me something "never seen" (combo to draw "infinitevely)... I show him the trick traitorus + game of cyvasse + kingdom of shadows that in this type of deck is "winning games"... After winning I knew I couldn't find in my tourney something worst than that...

4th Finals - WON against another spanish guy that played baratheon.

I was winning. 2 Army NW in play and lot of control... Metamagos came to our desk informing me that (cause we had the same dragonshield black sleeves) I reshuffled in my deck the army I've stolen with Seductive and one frozen solid). I apologized with my opponent and we rematch from the beginning.

I won quite easily. I have made the deck fearing the most rush decks so Stark siege, baratheon and martell suffered me a lot I think.

Semifinals against Kabe.

I love this guy... he is crazy... I'm crazy too... so we have the right feeling :-)

He played targaryen and I feared it was a deck similar to the one of dondiego based on the hill "looking in hand and kill".

When I saw he didn't search with plot or marshalled it in the first round I understood it wasn't a deck pure control so I breathed freely...

I blanked a Flaming pitch and the turn after, fearing the plot discard attachement, I burned it with condmened by the council... I was in control all the game... I resurrect from valar with 2 armies... I had in hand a Hand's Judgement to "kill" his forever burning... and all my character no attachements made me fear only the hill... an hill "taking dead piles" were in play and in the meanwhile I discarded anotherone with an intrigue claim... I didn't suffered the hill next round and finally the most hated hill "looking and killing hand" were in play... but I didn't have char in hand... all in play and the game ended for me when a venomus killed a street waif (remembering my first match I feared something like that was happened before).

I signed a contract with Kabe before game... If I would won I would go to madrid to make a revenge match... and this will be done for sure in the very near future... ;-)

With the power of the Hat gifted me by Kabe I went to the central table.

Finals against Maekar Martell 3 wildlings agenda. I was happy to face not NW chars cause those means "no intrigue against me" Also in this case only a wildfire assault to face. I started very well. Fear of winter. fury with val (if i remember well). Army Army Army. He played one event "Retreat and regroup" and I canceled with Hand's Judgement. He played an army and I put a traitor out from the shadow. The deck drawn all the best I could have hoped. Nothing to say.

Somebody complained about a very boring final. I have to admit that the X-Agenda archetip it is not spectacular... but I think I put my effort to make it "something different from all x-Agenda played in the tourney"... or at least I hoped...

At the end I think all the players in the first 30-40 places in classification were great players... when you go to a tournament you have to risk and predict "Which will be the most played deck?" and try to make something to rely on... This time I had the luck to predict well... and to don't face a lannister toll gate deck or something like my "bad dreams deck"...

That's all... in next message I will post decklist and showing you my idea just to share points of view...

After 16 hours of tournament I was lost... I have changed 1000 cards in my mind... and all of them would be banned before printing :-)

I didn't attended Nations cup cause I were destroyed in mind... but very light and happy about people exchanging cards with sign and "Hasta la victoria siempre" dedications... I exchanged one army wild with Maekar and he wrote me very kind worlds... I appreacieted a lot...

...and finally come back home... with a madrid trip to plan in the future... and lot of joy in my head...

First of all, I wish to congratulate Gualdo on his well deserved win. Way to go! It has been a privilege to be there and to be able to share this moment with you, the whole Italian team and the other European players.

I also wish to thank Thorondor for inviting me, my first time at Castle Staleck has been a really wonderful experience.

Thanks to all the players that stopped by, your appreciation and warm comments mean a lot to me. It has been a great pleasure to meet both Franz Micklis and Ilich Henriquez and to work together on some 'special' future cards ;-) (I lost count of the players that came over asking to see 'Cthulhu to the Wall').

I won't take anymore space, the community is definitely more interested in reading about the games, I think, and as a non-serious-player (not for now at least) I can't add anything to that, This is just to thank everyone I met for the wonderful time in Stahleck, if you have ever thought about going at some time, take the jump and do it, you won't regret the experience.

I have always said this is my 'Mt. Everett' type gaming event, maybe when I turn 40 in 5 years :)

Congrats to Gualdo who I obviously have never met, but have heard good things about in the US - plus he is a very strong board presence of course.

Congrats to the organizers, the attendees, the castle, the moat - whatever. Sounds epic.

So, 80 is the next # to beat? What was it before (1st Worlds 8 years ago - Italy before - last year's Stahleck)?

before it was 67 I think in Italy 2007... after that year the game stopped to be translated... and know we are in agony :-(

Translations can be really painful too....

the "contract" with Kabe foto "Super 'Market' Alcholic - Cheaper" is great ;-)

As were a re talking about the AGOT highlander legacy, here´s the winning Brothers at war deck:

While I think brothers at war decks almost builds themselves, fine tuning them is a fine art, and I must say you did a great job. All the standing effects gave you an edge over the others split decks, especially when combined with Davos 5ke. But i'm still more and more convinced the agenda deserves to be banned, since designer thinked it with strong drawbacks... that aren't there in the higlander format. I strongly metagamed my Lannister against brothers, but still even if you run First snow of winter - Catastrophe - Valar, it means you give up on gold to marshall, and the brother can dodge one of them with Outfox, rebuilds his hands with Bounty of the Realm, and win anyway 2 turns delayed. As I already stated with you at Stahleck, I think that only a Baratheon deck centered on the "steal power" from hose and characters them can counter effectively the Brothers agenda. The other houses, take it.

Well, at least I put in a good fight ;)
