Tourney of Stahleck VI (European Championship 2010): 8-10th Oct

By thorondor, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

italians player are 8 too ;-)

~You guys mean 'if I had as much money as Rings' WIFE has' actually...I just pass it to her :)

And, amazingly, her #1 vacation destination is not playing cards in a castle in Germany...although she did love the books at least!

i have made a few updates at the Tourney of Stahleck homepage today.

of course it still doesnt look nicer ;-)

Also a confirmed representation from Finland this year... of at least 1 player. That being Me.

How can somebody's favorite vacation destination NOT be a castle in Germany in beautiful autumn? :)

My thoughts exactly, when I heard about the tournament. Welcome aboard! :)

we have a problem. a NICE little problem ;-) we will be really a lot players at the AGOT Joust championship.

its by far more than 64 players, so we should be playing 6 rounds minimum. now maybe we should also have a top16 cut for the final instead of top8?

problem is, its going to take a lot of time. there is another tourney schecduled after the final. guess teh finalists are too exhausted to play anyway, but maybe some would like to watch some games, which makes taking part in the other tourneys (highlander) impossible.

is it just required to have that many rounds of playing to finally have a champ that is worth of it?

opinions??

Well I guess the portuguese crew it's 9 people after all! Count me in!

About the AGOT joust championship I agree with the final 16, since it's so many people playing and probably the finalists will be too tired to participate in the highlander anyway, so I don't think there's a problem with that.

Can't wait for Stahleck!

As I said in our private discussion, I think the cut must be at 16. We will be around 80 players, so a top 8 would let too much place to luck to determine the happy finalists. A single bad pearing, a single bad set-up, and a player would be disqualified. A top 16 would lower the importance of luck in the final result.

I completely agree with arthur.

I would vote for either 8 games or a top 16. Preferable for me 8 games and a top 8.

After this announcement i really need to build some more serious decks than the latest attempts. ;-)

seven games (with cut to top eight) should be sufficient for a tournament around 60-70 people

I agree with finitesquarewell. Not that I count on being in the top 8 (been playing for a month and a half, now ;) ), but the more rounds in the top cut (8 as opposed to 4), the longer the tournament will take, and greater the toll for the players involved. I'd rather have a top 8 where player's skill is heavily tested, than 8 rounds (a top cut with at least 8 hours?!? it's a bit too much, isn't it?) where the final rounds see players VERY tired...

Just my 2 cents.

Today the count for joust tournament is around 80 player... impressive...

We will meet at last amico mio!

I just decided I go. Now, should I play Stark (zero chance to top 8) or Martell? lengua.gif

YEAH! We are 8 italian players... for Nations cup we would be very happy to have you in our teams if you don't have other plans ;-)

Both Martell and Starks have their chances. Maybe Martell are a little bit in a stronger position but it depends on the pairings alos. Each house suffer and have a nemesis.

very good news!!!

FFG has told me that the AGOT Joust Champion will get his own Champion Card!

then, i was asked by quite a lot if Kings of the Storm will be tourney legal. it will be released by the end of sep, but it takes a few das to have it shipped to europe. so at the moment i dont think it should be tourney legal, even if it will be released in time according to the new Tourney Policy for legal products (1 week before).

at the end of next week i will finally decide, but lets hear what people are thinking about first ...

I would love to, but I have plane sunday morning.

As for Kings of the Storm, I think I will not be able to buy it before tourney.

Woho! Champion Card here I come... lengua.gif

Concerning KI: As much as I would love to use some of the cards already shown, I don't think it would be a good idea to include them for the tourney.

1. Not everyone might be able to get a copy in time (except if you manage to get some -> more business for you gui%C3%B1o.gif )

2. Most of us would probably have less than a week to adjust ourself to the new cards (and test our decks accordingly).

If it were only a small pack of 20 cards, I'd maybe say go for it, but this will be some 55 (?) new (old) 55 cards.

I don't know how much time the players had to adjust themselfs at the LW expansion for the WC, but I think it was more than a week...

If I recall correctly, last years policy was that each pack released 1 month before Stahleck would be tourney legal.

EDIT: Another point to consider: We don't know what rule issues might pop up with the new cards. And getting on such short notice an official ruling might be a bit more difficult.

Very good point. We have too much problems with old cards already.

I agree in have Bara core not legal.

great to hear that also europeans can design a card ;-)

I would vote for Kings of the storm being tourney legal. Reasons to consider:

a) the expansion is probably released in spain earlier than in the USA

b) the impact on the other houses was relative low in the case of the Greyjoy, Martell and Stark expansion

c) Baratheon immediately becomes another top house, which should make the tourney more interesting.

d) i wan´t to play knights of the realm agenda that badly.....

e) i really want to play with knights of the realm agenda....

f) ..... knights of the realm .... ! ..... please ! ... :-)

You see there are six good reasons to play with the expansion. ;-)

lol, indeed in spain come out earlier... but europe is not only spain :-)

come on, spain is FIFA world champion. So spain is even larger than europe. That should be more than enough to justify my position. ;-)

Nromaly I would say that a month is enough for a player to be counting on the cards. However, it just doesn't seem fair if so may people doesn't have access to the cards...

... I would "vote" no to us being able to use the latest aditions in Chapter Packs an Expansions.
