cards like flame pitch tower vs duped robb (low)

By Fieras, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

If I flame pitch tower a duped Robb from lords of winter, Does both the dupe and the character die immediately from the tower?? If not, when does it check again to see if he dies. Is he able to use his own ability to pump himself to avoid losing the character (after losing the dupe)?

What about a response that gave him +2 or something. IS there a time between the dupe going away and the character itself going away?

(PS: I understand if you were to response pump him immediately, not even the dupe would die, but thats not my question).

When the tower response is aplied to Robb, he go to moribound state unless you cancel/save. You can't save unless you remove the terminal effect, so both the dupe and the character get out of of the game al the same time, the dupe to the discard, the character to dead pile.

also at the same time

So a dupe is no protection from Flame-Pitch Tower because it only saves a character. It would not raise the STR of the character or otherwise prevent it from being killed again immediately. The "kill at 0" part of Flame-Pitch Tower is essentially a constant effect because the STR of a character is a constant characteristic. There is no time for a standard Response effect to be played because the character's STR is 0 - and he is therefore dead - before any standard Response can be triggered. Certainly, no "Any Phase" effect can be used after Flame-Pitch Tower resolves.

So pretty much the only thing that can save Robb from a terminal Flame-Pitch Tower is an effect that does both save him and raise his STR at the same time (yeah, yeah, there are other things besides raising the STR that can do it; point is, the save and the new condition that stops him from being killed again have to happen simultaneously). Dupes don't do that. There aren't a lot of saves that do. The character usually dies immediately, the dupe cannot be triggered and goes to the discard pile.
