Nurgle's Pestilence vs Warrior Priests

By Krabat2, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

I have a Warrior Priests in my Kingdom and a Free Company (with 2 damage of it's 3 Health) in my battlefield. Now my opponent plays a Nurgle's Pestilence (no units are corrupted). Do the Warrior Priests survive? I am not entirely sure, so I though I better ask.

Warrior Priests
Forced: The first point of damage assigned to this unit each turn is redirected to one target unit in any battlefield. (If there is no valid target, the damage is assigned to Warrior Priests.)

Nurgle's Pestilence
Action: Each unit in play takes 1 damage. Corrupted units take an additional damage.

If the redirected damage has nowhere it can legally go, it stays with the priests.

In this case, you can direct it to your other unit though. The 1 damage from the spell is assigned, then applied, with no opportunity for Actions in between (since its non-combat damage). The Warrior Priests ability is a triggered Forced effect though, which will trigger when damage is assigned, before it is applied (so the other unit isn't dead yet).

So the order:

Nurgle's Pestilence

Assign 1 dmg to Priests and other unit

Priests ability triggers and moves its 1 dmg to other unit

Dmg is applied and other unit dies.

Thanks Entropy42 for the explanation.

Warrior Priests ability isn't forced anymore, unless the FAQ errata is a typo. It's a constant effect, not that it affects the original effect. This should take care of any disputes that it couldn't trigger, though. I'll admit I posted "IF" because I was lumping damage redirection with indirect damage like a dope.

You're right, I read that in the FAQ and just assumed they were only rewording the text of the ability, not changing the type of the effect as well. But all the other "should read" explanations completely replace the card text. Thanks for the correction.

LOL it was a learning experience for me, too. I always like to be sure I am wrong! Do you think that constant effects if carefully worded can render forced effects obsolete?

They do seem sort of redundant, but I guess it gives them one more layer of effect "speed". I don't see any other specific feature that Forced effects provide that triggered constant effects couldn't also provide, but I know roughly zero about game design.
