A Burgundian Chevauchée

By Pedro Lunaris, in Battlelore

just had my most amazing game!

I only own the Core Box. I'm playing a lot because I ordered some expansions and I'm trying to see the games of the first Adventure Booklet as much as I can before moving on (even though I'll eventually come back).

so, today, I ended up playing twice the game number 8, "A Burgundian Chevauchée". I had played it once some months ago...

the first time today (as the real first time, months ago) I ended up playing the french side. so I didn't know there was a way that the english could win in this scenario. I know, I know, I'm exagerating: there is always possibilities. the english do have 4 horsmen units, one of them red bannered. but the 2nd Level Commander and the 3rd Level Cleric seemed a much stronger combination to the french.

but as I won the second game today playing with the english, I was impressed! it was a neat game, for the most part of it I thought they had everything in their hands (I was playing against two friends), but, in the end, I got it. I don't know what was it, I rolled really bad the first half and just a little better after that, and they kept their formations tight. they hadn't a lot of luck, but sure were rolling much better than I did (they obliterated one of my cavaliers in one three-die roll!).

the funiest thing is that I didn't pick one Mounted Charge! they took all four (admitedly, just one in time to make some damage, teh other three came almost in the end). and, almost worse: I cast a Fireball, rolling four dices, but not one lore nor any color hit!

incredible. it was too fun. I just had amazing two hours and a half (one of the friends that were opposing me had never played, so we had to do a lot of explaining).

so I just wanted to share the good vibe before going to bed. and, if anyone of FFG peaks at this post: please, folks. this game worths much more than the effort.

keep gaming, people. cheers.

My Wife and I just played the first batlte from the Epic scenario sheet last night. I have played quite a bit of BL but never got around to Epic, it was a lot of fun and she ended up winning 9-7 after the game was tied at 7. (Epic victory conditions are generally 7 and you have to win by two or by the first to 9.)

Posts about people playing BattleLore and having a blast really make me happy! happy.gif This is my favorite game after all!

But they make me sad too. Why? Because FFG is not as enthusiastic about BattleLore as I thought they would be. sad.gif

This whole Battles of Westeros thing was such a disappointment. I do hope that FFG will continue to support BattleLore but more actively. I see mistakes and ambiguities in their latest expansion's rulebooks and a general feel of sloppiness and rushed production. I'd really appreciate any info regarding the state of the game from FFG because this silence combined with their overhyped suppport of Battles of Westeros does not feel right for this BattleLore fan...

Frag, you already know how I feel and think about BoW, as our oppinions diverge. But I do share some of your views about FFG's investments in BL, as I too wait for them to give us some info soon, and I do hope BL to come again to be an editorial investment, as it is such a great, great game!

So, I posted here wanting to share with you an incredible night that I had. And is was all because of BL, and because of FFG too (and because of Noble Knight, from whom I ordered an used copy in amazing conditions, and since the game is out-of-print).

And I also think that we can do that! We can share our great experiences, and try to waken FFG's heart about BL, and ours also - at least as a community of fans and players, since we already play quite a lot. Let's also try a positive strategy aginst FFG's silence!

Cheers!

Pedro, I love that scenario, A Burgundian Chevauchee (well, that isn't saying much, as I enjoy most any BL adventure ;) )! Much for the reasons you mention in your initial post. At first blush it seems like it heavily favors the French - 5-4 command, level 3 Cleric vs. level 1 (a bad occurrence with any lore master, but especially so with the highly level dependent Cleric), and highest lore master for the French being level 3 and only level 2 for the English (meaning a lore deficit of one token to begin [yes, this does have some significance] and one card, plus throughout the game, 4 card potential to 3 for the English). The two advantages offered the English are the mounted superiority (somewhat tempered by the decreased command) and the spread among the council (enjoying only having to pay the +3 penalty on rogue cards, though this "advantage" is outweighed by the French having a level 3 lore master).

This is a great scenario for learning how to combat a level 3 cleric, how to press the mounted advantage, and how best to play with a low command level. All great fun to me :) Glad to hear it was for you too gran_risa.gif
