Lure of the Expanse - The Void Weave Cloak

Yo.

My players have just polished off the Light of Terra section of the Lure of the Expanse adventure. When checking to see what artifacts they recovered from the Light of Terra's treasure holds one of my players got the Void Weave Cloak.

This cloak states and i quote

"It can be worn over other armour and provides 3 APs to body, arms and legs"

It does some other stuff but this is the line i'm interested in.

Does this means that it adds 3 to whatever armour it is being worn over. Or is it saying that it provides 3 AP AND it can be worn over other armour but doesn't stack?

Obviously letting it stack makes it rather powerful, but given the power of some of the other items such as retribution bolt shells and the monster that is the Darloth chain cannon, it doesn't seem too out of whack.

What do you think?

I had originaly read it as stacking with the armor underneath. Like you said, it's not unreasonable compared to the other times listed. It's also not without TT precident - SoB Heroins can buy a "Cloak of St. Somebody" to go from a Power Armor save to a Terminator save.

It's only bad if the guy in power armor & dermal armor uses it. But that's the danger of a game that, at least by equipment standards, is quite high powered.

Once the enemies figure out there's a tank of that calibre coming, they'll likely break out the anti-vehicle gear. It's not like your average enemy is an underhive gang when you're using stuff like that, right?

The Void Weave Cloak 's AP3 does not stack with other worn armor, as it does not state specifically to do so. That said, the fact that the cloak's 3 AP work against damage received while in a state of immolation is very important, as normally such damage is not reduced by armor. Also, the cloak provides unreduced protection against "weapons dealing Energy damage." So a meltagun's Penetration 12 does nothing to reduce the cloak's AP of 3, etc.

Remember, the general rule is "Armor does not stack," and you "benefit from the best armor on the location." The only time this is untrue is when it is specifically stated otherwise; else the rule holds.

Yeah - that all makes sense to me though the description in the book should have been clearer.

I'm wondering what the Darloth Cannon description means when it say it reloads its own drum. From where? If it's got a feed of ammunition from somewhere it shouldn't need reloading until that runs out. And surely they can't be suggesting it creates it's own?

Self-loading, to me, really only means that it is capable of sustained operation without manual intereference (when the trigger is activated a round is fired, the casing ejected and a new round loaded). The normal heavy stubber takes 2 full actions to load, so this design is obviously much simpler to bring back to the fight (just as well because it's going to go through that ammo supply twice as fast).
