Spells - The stack?

By RuanW, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hi Gurus of Talisman,

I'm new the game, picked it up this weekend and have a had a few games so far and i'm really enjoying it. The same situation has come up on two occassion now and I was wondering if you could claify it for me. I assume "The Stack" (last in first out) rules apply to playing spells and events. If not I can't see counter-spell working unless you were to play it before the spell you want to counter. Is this the case, do the old stack rules apply? If so here's my question;

I had in my had three cards:- Teleport, Destruction and Random. Another player draws the "Magic Vortex" event and we all have to discard all our spells. Obviously I can't play Teleport or Destruction but using the stack can I play Random? In my mind it says you may play it at any time, and it would resolve first - with whatever effects - and then Magic Vortex would and I'd have to discard the other two. Am I right here? Or do I just have to discard all three straight away?

In the event you describe, you have to lose all your spells (all players do) without using any of them.

Thanks very much, that'll settle it for next time.
