When will the boat turn into a truck?

By peterstepon, in Deathwatch

It is the question on everyones mind and the burning question of the day. I am sure many are watching the new release page to see how quickly the boat from China will finally reach US shores and then transform into a green truck which will then drive to Minneapolis before making that blessed trip to hundreds of locations around the US and Canada where hundreds of good little nerds wait eagerly to slam their bills (or debit card, or credit card) onto a counter manned by a big overweight guy with black shirt and a ponytail.

I know that this was covered on another post, but I am getting impatient and wanted to start my own post to show the good people at FFG that we are hungry and are eager for a bite. Much like that episode of "The Cosby show" where Rudy was having a birthday and all the kids were banging on the table for their meal and Dr Hukstable (representing FFG in this case) was trying to figure out a way to placate the howling mob.

Well, they could print in America or Canada, but you know how hard it is to get companies to do that. Eventually either american works will start sinking ships from China or they won't have any money to buy the products anyway.

I am tempted to go to Somalia, join a band of pirates, and hijack the FFG ship as it makes the journey through the straight of Aden

Somehow, reading a copy of Deathwatch in Mogadishu, while smoking some really dynamite hash, seems quite appropriate ( maybe moreso with a copy of Rogue Trader)

One flaw... isnt it easier for the boat from China to go across the Pacific than around Africa?

With a Emperor blessed navigation roll you could go around the horn and arrive at holly america before you left china happy.gif

Just to let everyone know, a bunch of goods which seemed to be in the same batch as Deathwatch have changed from "boat" to "truck"

maybe a sign?

C'mon FFG! At least make with a release date will ya....

Without differing information I personally will consider the release date at amazon and various online stores to hold, which is Sept 7th.

Alex

I hope the ship dont get hijacked

Problably true, but I would like an official release date from FFG, not a second hand source.

FFG won't give a firm date. Due to the blowup on the forums last year with the release of Rogue Trader FFG changed their policy from being as accurate as possible based on what they know, to not telling anything until they start physically shipping books from their warehouse.

My guess is mid September at your FLGS and mid to late October for Amazon. Amazon typical starts shipping FFG's books 6-8 weeks after I have gotten a copy from my FLGS.

Amazon uk is still telling me, 14th September, for Deathwatch, but annoyingly 15th October for Rogue Trader into the storm. I'm currently running RT, so into the storm for me is needed, badly.

Why is it that you never see any FFG staff members on these forums, the only time we see them, is when they have a designer diary, or upcoming new book to tell us about???? At the other RPG companies their staff are regularly on the Forums, Cubicle-7, the owner/boss regularly chat on the boards, Mongoose Publishing the same thing, so why are FFG so "Customer Unfriendly"?.

Urr why am i now getting double line spaces when i press enter, to get to a fresh line, **** and blast it!!

Well, on the positive side, we've got MILLANDSON and N0-1here (or however he's spelled...) quite prominently on these forums who are testing and writing the stuff, so there is a link to the designers. And the more I see certain other forums where the devs do show up sometimes only to be torn to shreds as soon as they say something some forumite doesn't like, the more I understand the decisions of the main designers to abstain. As for Customer Friendliness... yep, providing that "ask the devs"-thingy at the bottom of the forum and regularly publishing additional material that didn't make it into the books for free... those are the marks of a company that truly hates its customers.

While my general opinion about this forum software (and especially the copy/paste function) might be considered unprintable, you can get a single line break by pressing shift&enter.

WOOPS, did not see the ask the dev's thing, and i certainly didn't mean to bad mouth any of the FFG people including Millandson , And NO'1 (Whatever his name), i honestly thought that Millandson was a Lucky Git (i i i....mean) Playtester, who gets the pre-production copies to play with months in advance, i didn't know he writes for FFG, i honestly have no clue as to what (Riker).....i hate alphanumeric names, so i'll call him (Riker), actually does, Sorry (Riker).

What i meant to say was they don't comment on anything we put on the forums, you even don't see them on the section called Rules Questions, apart from the two people you thankfully pointed out, Millandson and Riker.

Well, I'm not a writer for FFG, but the playtesters often do submit ideas and possible changes to books that get adopted (I've had quite a few bits in the books altered based on input from my group). Might not be as glamorous, but as Tesco's say, "Every little helps!" gran_risa.gif

And Ross/Sam/Mack do sometimes post on the forum to answer questions, though it all comes down to how busy they are. I know for a fact that Sam is busy as hell now he's back from Gencon.

Just out of curiosity: Which parts were changed because of you?

Uh-oh. MILLANDSON if you're answering this question you're going to end up in hot soup. (Just kiddin'.) gran_risa.gif

He's the reason that there are no female space marines in the book.

I didn't playtest Deathwatch (only Final Sanction), so nope, that's not because of me. That's all down to around 2 decades of Warhammer 40k canon gui%C3%B1o.gif

As for bits that were changed... Well, keep in mind that there are dozens of other playtesters too, so they might well have suggested the same thing, and that's why it got changed lengua.gif

A couple of bits in Lure of the Expanse were though, like the Warlock encounter in the first adventure, and a few other things in general with the Eldar (to ensure the encounters were balanced and weren't too hard to complete). Not entirely sure if I'm allowed to go into more detail (for example, if bits are cut from a book, they are still under NDA, and so I can't distribute them or really talk about them).

give us truck and end speculation

Agreed, if it is out by Friday/on Friday it will be a swell birthday present for myself.

Its mine. My birthday present.

Wow, I remember when things were actually released at GenCon and showed up at FLGS' the following week. Ah, the good old days.
