Newb Questions...

By GalaxyUC, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Well, considering the age of the game, I guess we're all newbs. So, after making some more observations about this game, I thought of a couple more questions I can't find answers to in the book.

1.) Where can I find information about these Advanced Careers? How does on acquire these advanced careers? Do players have to be at a certain Rank before they can take on this role? There are only 5 I think in the Core Set, but no books say how to acheive them.

2.) When a wizard channels power, or when a Priest curries favor, he can do that whenever he wants and spend the power tokens whenever he wants so long as he's in equilibrium right? So, one of these characters can be strolling down an imperial street and just say, Hey GM, I'm going to channel/curry some power for the day so that I'm ready for some unexpected event?

3.) Whoops, I actually had three questions... Am I correct in seeing that a characters starting a wizard apprentice is only going to be able to use 2 spells? Cantrip and another one? Because all the other action cards say a Rank of 1 is required to cast?

Thanks!!

1. The only thing that's special about advanced careers is that you can't start as one. You can only start in a basic career. Other than that, they really are just normal careers with a different keyword and occasionally some entrance requirements.

2. Wizards and Priests wander around with power/favor equal to their equilibrium. If they have more or less power/favor, they slowly gain or lose it until they are back at their equilibrium. So to answer your question, yes and no.

Yes, you will always have some juice to throw in case of an emergency. Most likely 3-5 (whatever your Willpower is).

No, you can't charge up and hold more than that for any sustained period of time. Either it will siphon off back down to your equilibrium or the fatigue will get to you.

3. Characters start at Rank 1, so a starting apprentice has easy access to all Rank 1 spells. If/when they transition to Acolyte, they will have easy access to Rank 2.

I say easy access because it is possible to take spells above your rank. It costs 1 more advance, and Winds of Magic has some additional rules.

Doc's answers are spot on.

Some advanced careers also have special requirements listed on the back of the career sheet. For example Witch Hunter and Acolyte.
