A Special Nod to Rings

By Dobbler, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I would like to send a special congratulations out to Rings. For those that don't know, this year marked the 5th STRAIGHT year that Rings made the final four in the Gencon joust world championships. That is a feat that is clearly unequaled by anyone else in the history of this game. I'm not sure I know of anyone who has even made it three straight times other than him.

Well done buddy, and thanks for kicking the crap out of me again.

Definitely a job well done, and well deserved by a great deck builder.

I have to give major props to rings for my deck as well. I spent a couple of hours chatting with him the night before about what people might run durring the joust, and what would run well against it. Not only did he give me the nudge I needed to play Martell, but many of his ideas and stategies in deck building are really what made Martell playable for me. It was a very valuble conversation, and gave me direction that night as I made improvements to my deck.

I'll have more details later in my own Gencon report, but a big thank you and congratulations are much deserved to and outstanding player, deck builder, community member, and friend.

I would agree to all of these praises if he (Rings) would have taken Erick down in the 3rd/4th place match. gui%C3%B1o.gif

J/K I've got nothin but love for my sugar-daddy. Congrats Rings on your continued and unparalleled success at Thrones!

Congrats on being good, but not good enough Rings!

lol, just kidding.

Congrats Rings, I look forward to seeing how long this streak can go!

See, I was really hoping this thread would be thanking him for the booze.

I should thank him for that too!

And just so he knows, the reason I thank him for that, is because we now have video of Darryl walking the streets of Indy, lost and drunk, making bird noises.

Awesome.

WHAT?! I want this video. NOW!

He has it on his phone.

Along with the picture of Andy, passed out drunk with his pants down outside our hotel room door.

You'll have to ask about that whole story the next time you see Darryl. We laughed about it the whole trip back to Springfield.

*sniff*

:)

Thanks to everyone that posted (especially Dobbler...~for both the thread and lying down in the Top 8 for me!). I have to admit being very proud of this accomplishment, probably as much as getting 1st in '06 (but not quite as much, or I would be known as the Buffalo Bills of aGoT).

It has been a great ride, and I am very lucky to have been able to have done even remotely well, considering my lack of playing opportunities. Especially the last two years, I wouldn't have put my chances at 10% of making it - so thanks to everyone who has talked or played with me over this time. Yes, I know I need to get on OTGN or whatever, I am just not that great with computers and haven't put in the time :)

Thanks again - I will do a big post this afternoon on the whole tourney (well, the only one that counts - the Joust). ;)
